(1) GERMANTOWN ROLLS ON
The stage was set on Saturday as Germantown headed to the hostile environment of Crowley gymnasium where a packed house of Dominican fans stood ready and an explosive opening quarter saw the Warhawks behind much to the delight of a frenzied audience. Facing some adversity for the first time the talent and depth of Germantown stepped up led by junior guard Lamonte Bearden and Indiana bound big man Luke Fischer and the Warhawks seized control in the second quarter to grab a 10 point lead and then put the game out of reach in the third quarter with a three point shooting barrage to collect their 44th consecutive victory. Now ranked as the #20 team in the country according to this morning’s ESPN 25 Power Rankings, the Warhawks look primed and ready to defend their state title.
(2) FISCHER MAKES STATEMENT
Big men are always a hot commodity but at the high school level the elite ones are generally few and far between and rarely do intrastate matchups pit them together. On Saturday Indiana bound senior Luke Fischer of Germantown and highly regarded sophomore Diamond Stone of Dominican took to the court in an excellent matchup featuring the present and the future dominant post prospects in the state of Wisconsin. Fischer delivered a big time statement with his energy, activity, athleticism, and skill and the end result was a powerful 25 point 13 rebound 4 block 4 assist effort filled with a handful of explosive dunks as well that made a huge statement for him on a big stage.
(3) BURRELL HAVING STELLAR SEASON
While top 10 nationally regarded Kevon Looney collects most of the attention, junior forward David Burrell has quietly gone about dropping a stellar junior campaign. Averaging close to 17 points a game and over 10 rebounds per contest, Burrell has filled the box score with dunks, rebounds, blocks, etc. while showcasing his activity and athleticism and serving as a huge force for a Hamilton squad with their eyes set on trying to capture the City Conference championship and a trip to Madison this year to challenge for the state title.
(4) BEARDEN STATUS IS ELEVATING
Having shown flashes of his potential as a freshman and sophomore talented lead guard Lamonte Bearden transferred to Germantown in the summer from the opening tip of the season the silky smooth lead guard has served as the catalyst of the Warhawks attack with his ball handling, playmaking, dribble penetration, and ability to make things happen. Averaging close to 13 points a game and a handful of assists per contest, Bearden has been scintillating at times this season and showcased his variety of skills in impressive fashion elevating his status in the process and making him a must watch prospect for schools looking for a lead guard in the 2014 class.
(5) WHITE DELIVERING AT THE V-HOUSE
The resurrection of Milwaukee Vincent as a basketball powerhouse this season isn’t the only thing head coach Marcus Hines has been able to accomplish, the re-emergence of junior forward Marcus White is also standing front and center with his accomplishments as White has been absolutely sensational at times this season. Currently averaging over 15 points a game and close to 10 rebounds, White has been a dominant and consistent force for Vincent this season while his ability to score the basketball and serve as a dominant force in the Vincent attack this year.
(1) GERMANTOWN (16-0)
Currently ranked as the #20 team in the country, Germantown won two more games this past week to run their winning streak to 44 consecutive games over the past two seasons. They are rolling on all cylinders and are primed to defend their state championship.
(2) MILWAUKEE VINCENT (15-2)
Vincent continues to develop as a team and their balance and frontline of Marquette bound senior Deonte Burton, senior Ronald Singleton, and junior Marcus White continues to spearhead their attack that has them atop the City Conference standings with a trip to Madison on their radar.
(3) MILWAUKEE HAMILTON (15-1)
Rebounded from a loss to Milwaukee Washington with a dominant win at Milwaukee Bay View and the 1-2 punch of Kevon Looney and David Burrell is equal to any in the state. They have experience on the sidelines, their guards continue to develop, and the ability Looney and Burrell have to put up huge numbers and control the paint make them a force down the stretch.
(4) DE PERE (13-2)
The Redbirds continue to roll along and the talented backcourt duo of Adam Beyer and Brevin Pritzl lead the charge of a team that right now looks like it will be a very tough out during the state tournament.
(5) MADISON MEMORIAL (15-1)
Equipped with a balanced attack that can have a variety of individuals step up as the scoring leader on any given night, Memorial has a victory over Sun Prairie under its belt and after grabbing a number of close victories they are starting to assert themselves in dominant fashion on occasion and led by Jester Weah they look primed for another return trip to Madison in March.
