Virginia Head Coach Tony Bennett struck big on the recruiting trail on Wednesday and he used his Wisconsin ties to do it as he landed sharpshooting 2011 talent Paul Jesperson of Merrill High School in Merrill, Wisconsin. Jesperson is considered the top 2011 prospect in the Badger state and has seen his stock soar in recent months with a laundry list of high major schools showing interest and offering the Wisconsin standout. Jesperson is considered a top 100 talent nationally and his strong play earned him an invitation to the prestigious NBA Top 100 camp this past June.

This is a major coupe for Bennett and the Cavaliers as they land one of the premiere shooting talents in the country in Jesperson who had offers from the SEC, Pac-10, ACC, Big East, Big 12, and Big Ten amongst others. “I’m extremely excited to play in the ACC for Coach Bennett,” Jesperson said, “The facilities, the conference, the coaching staff, and the academic opportunity are first class and I’m looking forward to attending Virginia.” Many expected Jesperson to decide in August or early this fall but the past few days it became clear that Virginia was the place for him. “I’ve been getting a lot of calls and tons of attention the past couple of weeks but the past few days it became clear to me that playing for coach Bennett at Virginia was the right call.”

Jesperson played with the Wisconsin Playmakers program on the grassroots travel circuit.

Senior to be forward Jarrod Uthoff has verbally committed to Wisconsin. Uthoff is one of the top 2011 prospects in the country and recently was named M.V.P. of the 17U division at the Next Level Invitational after leading the Iowa Barnstormers to the tournament championship.

Senior to be Paul Jesperson landed two more offers this week as Arkansas and Vanderbilt both offered the SG after his performance at the NY2LASPORTS.COM Summer Jam this past week. Jesperson plays with the Wisconsin Playmakers.

Junior SG Paul Jesperson exploded for 30 points including 8 trey balls but it wasn't enough as the Atlanta Celtics outlasted the Wisconsin Playmakers to advance to the 17U Quarterfinals of the Summer Jam.

Coaches from Vanderbilt, Purdue, Arkansas, Minnesota, Marquette, Georgia, Princeton, etc. were just a few of the many who took in the game.

Day 2 of the 2010 NY2LASPORTS.COM Summer Jam tips off on Tuesday with a loaded schedule once again that includes some scintillating individual matchups as Branden Dawson and SYF will take on Deangelo Harrison and the Franchize All-Starz as well as a game against Dream Vision which features the likes of Shabazz Muhammad, Angelo Chol, and Winston Shepard.

Also on tap is a 17U battle between Tennessee bound Kevin Ware and the Atlanta Celtics who will lock up against Jakarr Sampson and the King James Shooting Stars. Also worth noting is another matchup that pits Sophomore Perry Ellis and the Kansas Pray & Play Players against Jakarr Sampson and the King James Shooting stars at the 17U level.

A 16U must watch game will features Marcus Paige and the Martin Brothers Select taking on Dream Vision and loaded crop of young freshman including Matt Shrigley, Tyree Robinson, and Tyrell Robinson.

Actions starts at 8 a.m. on Tuesday at Homestead High School located at 5000 W. Mequon Road in Mequon, Wisconsin.

Sophomore Shabazz Muhammad exploded for 35 points including 20 in the second half to power a comeback victory for the Dream Vision 17U squad over the Franchize All-Starz during opening pool play action at the 2010 NY2LASPORTS.COM Summer Jam.

Muhammad went head to head with Junior Deangelo Harrison (33 points) in a classic affair that saw Head Coaches like Frank Martin (Kansas State), Rick Pitino (Louisville), Josh Pastner (Memphis), Bill Carmody (Northwestern), Lorenzo Romar (Washington) etc. as well as over 100 college coaches take in the Day 1 action at the Summer Jam.

Day 2 begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday at Homestead High School in Mequon, Wisconsin.

Freshman Deonte Burton scored 18 points to lead the Terry Porter Elite 16U team to a 68-56 victory over the Wisconsin Blizzard Emery team in opening pool play at the 2010 NY2LASPORTS.COM Summer Jam.

Junior SG Paul Jesperson has added two more offers to his plate as Oregon State and Iowa both offered the sharpshooter according to his brother and grassroots travel team coach Jason Jesperson. Paul plays with the Wisconsin Playmakers and will be at the Summer Jam July 12-15, 2010.

Sophomore Otis Pirtle has secured an offer from Indiana State on Saturday according to Playground Elite program director Duane Wilson. Pirtle competed with the Playground Elite this past week at the Next Level Invitational and will take the court again July 12-15, 2010 at the Summer Jam with the Playground Elite 16U team.

The pool play schedule for the 2010 Summer Jam is now posted. The event will tip off July 12, 2010 and run through July 15, 2010 at Homestead High School in Mequon, Wisconsin.

2014 lead guard Dominique Collier was named M.V.P. of the 14U division after leading the Ray Allen Select to the tournament championship with a victory over the Milwaukee Running Rebels at the 2010 Next Level Invitational this past week.

While the Next Level Invitational winds down today the 2010 Summer Jam looms on the horizon with an explosive field of teams that includes at least 15 top 100 2011 prospects and 10-15 top 100 2012 prospects. Over 100 Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA colleges were front and center for day 1 of the Next Level Invitational. Virginia, LSU, Arizona State, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Butler, Drake, Northern Iowa, Bradley, etc. were among just a few of the names in attendance on day 1.

The schedule for the 2010 Next Level Invitational July 6-9, 2010 is now posted. The tournament is certified for NCAA Division I College Coaches to attend and has programs committed from Arizona, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska.

Marquette head coach Buzz Williams struck big on the recruiting trail today this time landing former Racine Horlick standout Jamil Wilson. Wilson played one season with Oregon in the Pac-10 after signing with the Ducks out of high school. On Monday Wilson received his official release from Oregon and subsequently committed to Marquette.

This is a major coupe for Williams and the Golden Eagles who now have landed yet another elite national in-state talent as Wilson was heralded as a Top 25 prospect by many coming out of stellar high school career at Horlick. Wilson played with the Playground Elite program during the grassroots travel season.

Madison East 2011 lead guard Nimrod Hilliard landed an offer from South Dakota earlier this week. Hilliard is one of the top 2011 prospects in the state of Wisconsin and he competes with the Playground Elite program during the grassroots travel season.

6'7" SF Jamil Wilson requested and has officially been given his release from the University of Oregon. Wilson was one of the most coveted 2009 prospects in the country before signing with with Ducks who recently hired a completely new coaching staff earlier this spring.

Rising 9th grade talent Michael Lukashewich of Appleton, Wisconsin grabbed Mr. Hustle honors at the 2010 NY2LASPORTS.COM Generation Next All-Star Camp this past weekend. The athletic forward was one of the surprise performers at the prestigious camp that featured prospects from across the United States. Lukashewich also landed a spot in the Top 20 All-Star Game for 2014 phenoms this past weekend after his strong play.

Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin Badgers struck on the recruiting trail this weekend as they landed 6-10 Junior Frank Kaminsky of Benet Academy in Illinois. Kaminsky plays with the Illinois Wolves during the grassroots travel season.

Junior Traevon Jackson verbally committed to Wisconsin over the weekend. Jackson is the son of former Ohio State and NBA standout Jim Jackson. Jackson plays with the All-Ohio Red program during the grassroots travel season.

A flurry of prospects from the state of Wisconsin are taking part in the prestigious Nike Hoop Jamboree camp in St. Louis, Missouri this weekend. Sophomore Jean-Pierre Tokoto of Menomonee Falls, Junior Lomomba of Madison Memorial, Arroyo Edwards of Milwaukee King, Phillip Nolan of Milwaukee Vincent, and freshman Deonte Burton of Milwaukee Vincent are all taking part in the event.

Tokoto plays with the WI Playground Warriors, Nolan splits time between the WI Playground Warriors and D.T.A., Lomomba plays with the Wisconsin Gators Elite, Burton plays with the TP Elite and Edwards plays with the Playground Elite grassroots travel program.

Jameel McKay is expected to reclassify as a 2012 prospect and attend Southern Carolina Prep Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina next fall according to sources close to the situation. McKay plays with the TP Elite grassroots travel program.

Chris McHenry of Garden City Community College has committed to Miami of Ohio. The scoring perimeter talent attended Bradley Tech High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before heading to Garden City. He played with the Milwaukee Spartans program during his time on the grassroots travel circuit.

Sophomore Jean-Pierre Tokoto scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Wisconsin Playground Warriors to an 84-46 victory over the Arkansas Elite in the opening game of 16U pool play at the Real Deal in the Rock in Arkansas.
