2008 Prospect Look - 5'10" G Derrick Washington Jr. - Wisconsin

While
it's easy to focus on the likes of Korie Lucious and Kwamaine Mitchell for the
Class of 2008 in Wisconsin, there are a number of solid college prospects
throughout the state and 5'10" G Derrick Washington Jr. of Brown Deer High
School is one of those players.
The 5'10" Washington is an exceptional outside threat who can stroke the mid range jumper and the trey ball with consistency from anywhere on the court. Washington has been a SG for the majority of his career but in recent months he's began to make the transition to handling the ball and running the point and he continues to get better with each week. Washington also has solid speed & quickness as well as above average athleticism which will allow him to both compete and succeed at the collegiate level. He displayed that time and time again this past spring/summer and did the same last month at the 2007 Next Level Showcase where he stood out as one of the top pure shooters at the camp!
Pound for pound Washington is easily one of the top outside shooting prospects in Wisconsin and quite possibly the Midwest as he's one of those guys that can just make baskets when he's on the floor. As his ability to handle the ball and defend the ball improve in the coming months, Derrick should put himself in a position to collect interest from schools at the Division 2 level as a few have already inquired in recent weeks about the Brown Deer High School standout. Anyone looking for a guy who plays hard, can stretch the defense, and will put up consistent outside shooting game in and game out need to take a look at Mr. Washington as he's the type of player that will get that done.
