While
the focus the past few months has been on the Class of 2008 recruiting wise and
is gradually shifting to the Class of 2009, the Class of 2010 throughout the
Midwest is another solid recruiting class with a host of solid Division 1
prospects throughout the region.
6'6" G/F Jereme Richmond of Waukegan, IL (Illinois commit) has taken most of the attention in the state of Illinois for the 2010 class, but there are a number of solid prospects both above the radar and below the radar who should expect to see their recruiting stock continue to increase by the end of next summer. One of those is 5'8" PG Ahmad Starks of Whitney Young in Chicago, Illinois.
Starks has solid court awareness, nice speed & quickness, solid ball handling ability, and and nice range on his jump shot, which is continuing to become more consistent with each passing month. The young PG has a solid understanding of the game for a young guard and has shown the ability to really make things happen whenever he's on the floor, both offensively and defensively. He has some solid athleticism but more importantly he understands how to run a team and sees the floor very well, a quality that's virtually a necessity for a PG at the collegiate level. Starks can stroke the mid range shot and his range beyond the 3 point line has become more consistent game in and game out. When you throw in the fact that he has the ability to penetrate and create along with an ability to stroke the jumper off the dribble, it's easy to see why Starks has gotten interest from a number of Division 1 programs in recent months.
Starks will likely see his recruiting stock take off this spring/summer campaign as he competes for the Chicago based Ferrari Grassroots program, one of the many strong travel programs in the state of Illinois.
