Class of 2011 Prospect Look - 6'8" F/C Mike Shaw - Illinois

By Antonio Curro - NY2LA Sports

October 31, 2007

One of the top Class of 2011 prospects in the country is putting it down in the Midwest as 6'8" Mike Shaw of De La Salle Institute (Chicago, Illinois) is already being regarded as the next big thing in the state of Illinois.  The long, athletic, young interior prospect blasted on the scene this past spring when he helped lead the 15U Mac Irvin Fire Grassroots program to the 2007 NY2LA Sports Swish & Dish Spring Warm-Up Championship in early April.  Pretty impressive when you consider that he was playing up a year and he completely dominated the 15U division along with his teammate Wayne Blackshear, helping lead the Fire to the championship in a field that included some of the strongest 15U teams in the Midwest such as the St. Louis Eagles, D.T.A., Minnesota Magic, SYF Players, and Playground Warriors.

The multi-dimensional talent followed up that performance by joining the 17U Fire team for most of the summer and helping them to strong finishes at a number of tournaments including a Gold Division championship at the 2007 Houston Kingwood Classic and a semi-final finish at the 2007 NY2LA Sports Next Level Invitational this past July.  At 6'8" Shaw has the potential to dominate inside has shown the ability to slash to the basket and stroke the jump shot as well.  As good as he already is, Mike is still raw meaning there's tons of room to grow and continue to improve in the coming years.  Pretty scary for the competition when you consider the fact that Mike landed at the #10 spot in the country on the HoopScoop shortly after the Swish & Dish tournament performance and recently moved up to the #7 position for the Class of 2011 when the updated rankings for the Class of 2011 were released last week.

Shaw has already firmly established himself as one of the top young prospects in the country and with continued hard work and development, expect him to collect a host of high major offers in the coming years as he has all the makings of another big time talent to come out of the Windy City!
