Here's a few notes for the weekend...
Score one for Bradley and Head Coach Jim Les as
6'9' John Wilkins (pictured left) has committed to attend
Bradley. Wilkins, a Belgian import, blast on the scene this July with the
Illinois Wolves and promptly had coaches across the country in every major
conference positing to land him after his performances at the 2008 Reebok Summer
Championships and the 2008 Duel in the Desert. Wilkins was one of the top
available bigs and was looked at as either a 2008 or 2009 prospect.
Despite the commitment, he still needs to go through the NCAA Clearinghouse.
This is an excellent grab for Bradley as Wilkins has the potential to have an
excellent career there.
2010 F Kyle Kelm (pictured left)
took a visit to the University of Iowa earlier this week. The Randolph
High School (Wisconsin) standout is regarded as one of the top 2010 prospects in
the Midwest. He's collected offers to date from Iowa, Marquette, Iowa
State, Oregon State, UWM, GB, St. Louis, Bradley and Northern Iowa. Minnesota,
Washington State, Purdue, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, Syracuse, and Notre Dame
have also shown interest as well. He also plays for the Wisconsin Swing
during the spring/summer travel season.
6'3" 2011 G Jalonnie Parks
(pictured left) is now attending Wisconsin Lutheran High School. Parks is
one of the elite 2011 prospects in the Midwest and as some of you may recall, he
had an excellent season last year at Milwaukee Custer on the varsity level.
However, things have now changed as Parks goes from playing with 2010 standout
and UW-Milwaukee commit Calvin Godfrey to rocking the courts alongside 6'5" F
Flavien Davis at Wisconsin Lutheran this year. Davis is already regarded
as one of the top 2010 prospects in Wisconsin and together with Parks you can
expect Wisconsin Lutheran to be a tough team to beat this upcoming year.
Real talk, Parks can flat out go and a number of Division 1 schools including
Pittsburgh have inquired about him after a strong spring performance.
Expect his stock to soar over the next couple of years with continued
development and growth. He plays with the Playground Elite on the
spring/summer travel circuit.
UW-Milwaukee Head Coach Rob Jeter grabbed one of the top 2010 prospects in
Wisconsin earlier this week as 6'5" F Marquis Mason
verbally committed to play for the Panthers. Mason is regarded as an
explosive athlete with a lot of upside given his raw skill set. Mason
joins the likes of Evan Anderson, Vander Blue, and Kameron Cerroni as top
Wisconsin 2010 prospects who are now off the board. Mason played with
Badger Sporting Goods and then finished up with the Wisconsin Swing this past
spring/summer travel season.
Speaking of early commits, new Indiana Head Coach Tom Crean extended his reach
out West and grabbed 2011 6'2" G Matt Carlino
(pictured left) this past weekend. Carlino is out of Highland High School
in Arizona and is regarded by most as one of the elite prospects nationally in
that class. This is an excellent catch for Crean as Carlino is an
excellent floor leader who really gets it done.
One kid to keep tabs on 6'8" 2010 prospect Phillip
Jackson over the next 12 months. The Saint Mel (Illinois)
standout is one of the best kept secrets in the Midwest and could see his stock
absolutely explode by the end of next summer. He plays with the Mac Irvin
Fire on the spring/summer travel circuit.
6'3" SG Troy Huff of Brookfield Academy
is not moving or transferring to Arizona as had been rumored. The young
sharpshooting standout informed me earlier this week that he's returning to
Brookfield Academy. Huff stands as one of the top perimeter shooting guard
prospects in the 2010 class. He plays with the Playground Elite on
the spring/summer travel circuit.
6'5" F Chip Rank of Cedarburg
(Wisconsin) continues to get more and more interest. While UW-Green Bay,
UW-Milwaukee, and North Dakota State have put offers on the table, Marquette,
Northwestern, Colorado, Colorado State, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Portland,
South Dakota State, and Williams & Mary have also expressed interest as well.
Rank is regarded as one of the top 2010 prospects in the state of Wisconsin and
should be an excellent piece for new Head Coach Lance Randall to build on at
Cedarbug. Rank plays with the Wisconsin Swing during the spring/summer
grassroots season.
