One of the most underrated prospects in the 09' class nationally continues to do...well...exactly what he does and that's flat out get it done when he takes the court. We're talking about none other than 6'5" G/F Raymond Cowles of Hopkins (MN).
The long athletic wing prospect has continued to put down solid performance after solid performance this season for Hopkins (MN) including a 21 point performance last night in helping lead Hopkins to another victory.
Cowles took off this past spring with the Net Gain Sports Grassroots program in Minnesota as he helped lead them to the 2007 Vision Sports Las Vegas Easter Classic Tournament championship. He also jumped out of the box during the July period with a monster performance at the 2007 NY2LA Sports Next Level Tournament by leading his Net Gain Sports 16U team to the tournament championship and also capturing M.V.P. honors as well. The championship game against St. Louis Gateway was featured on Fox Sports North and Fox College Sports and Ray did more than enough as his ability to attack the rim and hit the mid range shot propelled Net Gain Sports to the championship in a field that included some of the very best 16U teams in the country in the likes of the Playground Warriors (now Playground Elite), D.T.A, Howard Pulley Panthers, Illinois Stars, Madison Spartans, Mac Irvin Fire, St. Louis Gateway, plus many more.
Cowles is a relentless defensive presence on the court and on the offensive end he's equally effective as he can slash to the rim, hit the mid range, and also strokes the trey ball very consistently from everywhere on the court.
Cowles has seen interest from a host of mid to high major programs in recent months including, but not limited to, Marquette, Northwestern, and Michigan to name a few.
When you consider the fact that he is an excellent student as well, it's safe to say that Mr. Cowles is going to become an excellent recruit for the next level both on and off the court!
January 23, 2008 Update - 12:00 p.m. EST - Cowles has now been officially offered a scholarship from Northwestern in the Big Ten
