While
Class of 2009 PG Danny Mckeown of North Division took home M.V.P. honors at last
month's 2007 Next Level Showcase, 5'9" PG Deionta Mitchell of Watertown High
School did more than hold his own at the camp and showed that he has has more
than enough athleticism and skill to play at the collegiate level.
The lightning quick and very athletic Mitchell is one of the top Class of 2008 prospects in Wisconsin this year and the guy that makes everything happen for the Watertown Goslings. Mitchell can handle the ball, attack the rim, and stroke the outside jumper. He also has excellent lateral quickness, solid athleticism, and can really get up off the floor. He has a scorers mentality and the ability to break down opposing guards off the dribble or just pop the jumper if left open.
While size could definitely be a concern at the next level, especially on the defensive end, Mitchell really gets after it and should make an excellent PG in an up tempo system at the next level. Whatever he may lack in size, Mitchell makes up for in athleticism and toughness. Expect Deionta to have an excellent senior year for the Goslings and he has the ability and potential to play and make an nice impact at the collegiate level.
