Class of 2010 Prospect Look - 6'6" F Harrison Barnes - Iowa

By Antonio Curro - NY2LA Sports

November 13, 2007

As strong as the Class of 2009 is throughout the Midwest, the Class of 2010 has a number of top prospects as well and one of the best is 6'6" SF Harrison Barnes of Ames, Iowa.  The long athletic Barnes has already generated interest from a host of high major programs based largely in part to his performances this past spring/summer while putting it down for the All Iowa Attack Grassroots program.

The #1 Class of 2010 prospects in the State of Iowa recently grabbed the #61 spot on the HoopScoop national board for the Class of 2010.  After watching him workout again this past weekend, you can expect Harrison to grab a spot even higher the next time around as he really has some big time upside in the coming years.  The long athletic Barnes has excellent size, good length, a nice frame, explosive leaping ability, a smooth mid range game and the ability to step out and stroke the trey ball as well.

As good as he is now, he still is a bit raw in some areas which doesn't bode well for his opponents in the coming years as Harrison is just now starting to scratch the surface of what could develop into a sensational prep and collegiate career.  Expect a host of high major programs to put offers on the table in the coming years as Harrison has the potential to become one of the best players to come out of Iowa in a long time.

After watching him workout, we had a chance to sit down and talk with Harrison and here's what he had to say:

AC:  How's things going with you Harrison?

HB:  Pretty good

AC:  What's the best part of the recruiting process right now?

HB:  The unofficial visits have been a lot of fun.

AC:  Who's shown the most interest?

HB:  Iowa, Iowa State, and Indiana State have offered.  Wisconsin, Purdue, Stanford, and Kansas State have also shown some interest as well.

AC:  Any thoughts on what you'd like to study when you go to college?

HB:  Business Administration and Finance

AC:  What are the strongest parts of your game right now?

HB:  I think I can give a team whatever they need.  If they need someone to score I can do that, if they need rebounds, I think I can do that as well.  Whatever my team needs I'd like to think I can give that to them.

AC:  Anything else?

HB:  I think I can elevate pretty well right now.

AC:  What are areas you think you need to improve or work on?

HB:  Ball handling and defense.

AC:  When it's all said and done as a player, what would you like people to think of you?

HB:  I want them to always say that I was a complete player, thorough, and finished whatever I started.

AC:  What about you might surprise some people?

HB:  I play the saxophone and I'm in the school band?

AC:  Anything else?

HB:  Yes.  There are rumors floating around that I've committed to Iowa State.  I'd like to make it perfectly clear that I have not.  I have not made any commitment to attend any college and have not committed to Iowa State at all.  I'm going to take my time, see what all the schools are talking about, get to know the coaches, and then make the best decision possible.  I haven't made any decisions yet and I am not close to making a decision right now.
