If
last weekend's performance at the 2008 Swish & Dish Spring Warm-Up was a preview
of what's to come, expect 6'7" SF Harrison Barnes of Ames, Iowa to become one of
the hottest prospects in the country by the end of the spring. Following
right in the footsteps of last year's breakout performance by 6'7" Jamil Wilson
of Racine, Wisconsin, Barnes should become one of if not the single hottest
commodity in the Midwest for the Class of 2010 very quickly.
The long athletic swing man drips with talent and potential when he takes the court. Blessed with an excellent frame, Barnes can do whatever he wants to on the court and his 30 point 15 rebound performance against an absolutely loaded Mac Irvin Fire 16U squad last Saturday afternoon had everyone in the gym buzzing. Barnes has explosive athleticism, can handle the rock, strokes the mid range, attacks the glass, can score on the blocks, and occasionally has shown the ability the step out beyond the 3 point line and hit the jumper as well. Get this though...the kid is still only a sophomore, which means opponents will be in big time trouble the next couple of years as Barnes continues to develop and improve his game.
Pound for pound Barnes is a tough matchup for anyone. Add to the fact that he's an excellent student, extremely articulate, and just a flat out nice kid to boot and it's no surprise that schools like Arizona and Texas have picked up the trail on Barnes who's already being recruited by tons of high majors across the Midwest. Barnes is the total package on and off the court and you can expect to see college coaches lining up on the sidelines to get a glimpse of him all spring as he competes with the All Iowa Attack 16U team coached by Jake Sullivan.
They'll hit the "live" period circuit first at the Real Deal on the Hill April 18-20, 2008.
