Class of 2009 Prospect Watch - 6'6" F Keegan Hornbuckle - CA

By Antonio Curro - NY2LA Sports

December 17, 2007

One of the top stories developing on the West Coast for the Class of 2009 is 6'6" SF Keegan Hornbuckle of Campbell Hall in North Hollywood, California.

The long sharpshooting prospect is developing into one of the top 09' prospects on the West Coast and has has one of the most effortless strokes from beyond the 3 point line in the entire country.  This past weekend he helped 08' phenom Jrue Holiday and his Campbell Hall teammates finish 2nd in the OceanView High School Tournament of Champions in Huntington Beach, California.  While he struggled in the championship game against Westchester (CA), during a quarterfinal matchup against Demar Derozan and Compton High School, it was Hornbuckle who set the tone early by stroking jump shot after jump shot and setting the stage for Jrue Holiday's 3rd quarter performance that put the game away. Coaches from Arizona State and Northwestern were in the building this weekend taking a look at Hornbuckle and a couple other prospects at the tournament.

Hornbuckle has excellent size, a great frame, and solid length.  He also has some solid athleticism and provided a glimpse of that by attacking the rim and slamming home a monster dunk against Compton High School.  Keegan also understands the game very well in terms of defensive positioning and spacing on the offensive end, which gives him a solid all around floor game.  When you consider the fact that his physical frame is still undeveloped and he can flat out stroke it from anywhere when he get's it going, you can expect Hornbuckle to get a lot of interest in the coming months as he continues to develop.

His continued development is the key because as good as he is on potential as a prospect, he still is a bit streaky as an outside shooter and is more of a set shooter right now so he'll have to refine his stroke to be quicker and also be able to come off screens and stroke it against the top athletes at the next level.  Regardless, Hornbuckle has a solid all around floor game right now and is easily one of the top outside shooting prospects on the West Coast for the Class of 2009.
