09' Henderson draws comparisons to former Marquette star Diener!
You might remember a guy by the name of Travis Diener, a standout guard at Marquette University and current NBA guard. Well, there’s a young Class of 2009 guard by the name of Marshall Henderson who’s drawing a lot of comparisons lately to the former Marquette University great. Asked about those comparisons yesterday and Henderson indicated that it’s “pretty awesome” and “it’s an honor to even be mentioned in the same sentence as him”.
Comparisons aside, the young man from L.D. Bell High School in Forth Worth, Texas is deserving of the attention coming his way. At 6’2” 165 Marshall Henderson displays an excellent all around floor game and leadership when he’s on the floor. He can handle the ball, create on the offensive end, and flat out shoot the lights out from the mid range and 3 point areas when left open. He’s also deceptively quick and really made strong showings this past summer at the Reebok Summer Championships while rocking a Dallas Mustangs jersey. The Mustangs are perennially one of the top travel teams in the country and they also feature one of the top Class of 2011 prospects in the country in Lebryan Nash (“LB”) and another of the top Class of 2009 prospects in 6'5" Nolan Dennis.
Henderson is getting a ton of high major interest in recent weeks and deservingly so. Not only can he play the game and display excellent leadership ability when he's on the court, he also does the same in the classroom as his 3.6 GPA will attest and according to Marshall “It should be up to 3.7 or 3.8 pretty soon”. Those statements echo how he plays on the court! Henderson doesn't give an inch and competes against anyone anytime anywhere.
Henderson has an unofficial visit scheduled with Texas A&M on October 6th and he follows that up with an unofficial at Notre Dame on October 13th.
His maturity combined with his ability and the fact that plays hard on both ends of the court make for a big time floor general at the next level. It’s also possible that if Henderson continues to develop, there may be a young guard being compared to him someday in the same manner as he is drawing comparisons to the former Marquette star.
