Jeronne Maymon of Madison Memorial completely an exceptional high school
tournament run last week that saw Madison Memorial come away with a 2nd place
finish at this year's WIAA Division 1 state tournament. Despite a 2nd
place finish, Maymon's performance still saw him grab the Most Outstanding
Player award at the tournament after a 3 game performance that saw him average
30 points, 14.7 rebounds, 4.7 blocks, 3.7 steals, and 3.0 assists and a
championship game where he was sensational in posting 33 points and 16 rebounds
in the overtime loss to Wauwatosa East. Earlier this week another award
came his way as he was selected as the AP state player of the year.
Maymon is widely considered to be one of the top Class of 2009 prospects in the Midwest. The 2007 NY2LA Sports Invitational M.V.P. is expected to compete again this spring with the Madison Spartans 17U program alongside teammate and Class of 2010 standout Vander Blue.
While Jeronne Maymon took home player of the year honors, 6'2" Sr. G DeMarcus Phillips (Milwaukee Washington), 5'10" PG Korie Lucious (Pius XI), 6'0" Kwamaine Mitchell (Dominican), and 6'7" SF Jamil Wilson (Racine Horlick) were also named to the AP first team.
Speaking
of Phillips, while Maymon grabbed AP state player of the year honors it was
DeMarcus Phillips who was selected as Mr. Basketball for the state of Wisconsin.
The explosively athletic Phillips led Milwaukee Washington to a 21-1 record
while averaging 21.9 PPG. Phillips came in 2nd for the AP state Player of
the Year award.
