In more Regional Final action, Milwaukee Vincent hosted red hot Milwaukee South in a low-scoring contest with some big shots sunk by both teams.  Vincent was steady throughout the game in large part to solid play from 2014 F Marcus White and a great fourth quarter from 2013 G Jabari Hobson.  South was led by seniors Deonta Williams and Shawn Luckette who tried to help South come back from down 14 in the fourth quarter.  But South ran out of time and Vincent hit a high percentage of their free-throws late in the game to seal the 48-36 victory to earn some Regional hardware.  The Vikings will have a rematch against King in the Semi-Sectional game.

Asked about Thursday’s upcoming matchup, Vincent hopes to be playing their best basketball against a King team seeking revenge from a loss to the Vikings earlier in the season, as well as the chance to advance. Senior forward Deonte Burton said “We [have to] work hard, play together and keep coming closer as a team and I feel that will pull it out for us… King is a very tough team to play and we have to execute and be on our p’s and q’s.” Vincent Head Coach Marquis Hines re-emphasized Burton’s comments saying “When we play as a team we’re much better, we played like a unit tonight, shared the ball and were solid defensively… King plays hard, they play together very cohesively and they’re well-coached, so we’ll have to make sure we’re ready.” Thursday should be a battle with both teams having high aspirations and goals for how they want to finish their seasons.

Marcus White – F – 2014 – Milwaukee Vincent H.S.
6-5 – Milwaukee, WI

White buried four long-balls on the night, including two back-to-back in the third quarter which energized Vincent and propelled them to a significant second half lead.  The talented junior played strong defensively getting in gaps and deflecting passes, had 3 steals, pulled in 7 rebounds and had a big blocked shot down the stretch to cap the victory.  White finished the game with a team-high 14 points.

Deonta Williams – G – 2013 – Milwaukee South H.S.
6-2 – Milwaukee, WI

Williams was exceptional on the road today shooting the ball against a long defense with a talent for pressuring opponents.  The well-sized senior guard was under control all night and found different spots on the floor to knock down shots including a three-pointer and a major slam dunk late in the game for South.  Williams’ high school career ended with an impressive game-high 19 points.

Shawn Luckette – G/F – 2013 – Milwaukee South H.S.
6-2 – Milwaukee, WI

Like his teammate Williams, Luckette came up with some big shots late in the game to cut Vincent’s lead to 8 with a couple minutes remaining.  Luckette was able to get an “and-1” basket late and also knocked down a pair of three’s in the second half.  The senior went 5 for 8 from the line and finished his career with 14 points.

Jabari Hobson – G – 2013 – Milwaukee Vincent H.S.
6-2 – Milwaukee, WI

Hobson was excellent in the fourth quarter.  South had momentum looking to get back in the game midway through the fourth until Hobson stepped up with two big finishes at the rim off penetration and added a three-point bucket late.  Hobson had 11 points for the game.
