The WIAA Boys State basketball tournament is in full swing and Saturday saw the majority of regional finals tip with Division 1 favorite Germantown playing host to Homestead in one of the matchups.  In typical Warhawks fashion the defending state champions jumped out to a 17-3 lead early and never looked back as Indiana bound senior Luke Fischer powered Germantown to the Sectionals with a 70-44 victory.

Jon Averkamp – 2014 – F – Germantown
The talented junior was extremely active on both ends and made a number of impact plays with his hustle in collecting loose balls, blocking shots, and attacking the glass.  Finished with 14 points and delivered a solid floor effort that brought energy and impact to the court on both ends.

Lamonte Bearden – 2014 – PG – Germantown
The fast rising lead guard jumped out of the gate early with 4 points and 4 assists in the opening period and despite a scary fall in the second half he still managed a solid 12 point 8 assist performance.  He controlled the tempo, delivered solid passes, and pushed the ball with success in a solid and smart performance on Saturday.

Luke Fischer – 2013 – F/C – Germantown
The Indiana bound Fischer delivered another solid post effort on Saturday as he scored on the blocks and controlled the glass in a quality effort.  We had his final tally at 18 points but other reports indicated that he finished with 20, regardless he was solid in making a number of solid post moves and providing a strong and dominant interior presence on both ends of the court as he added 12 rebounds and 4 blocks on Saturday.

Jake Laihinen – 2013 – SG – Homestead
The senior made some nice plays on Saturday, he knocked down a trey ball, and he was active and played hard on both ends of the court.  Despite the final score, Laihinen showed some nice energy and skill on Saturday with a 7 point effort.

Jake Showalter – 2014 – SG – Germantown
The sharpshooting junior was the catalyst to a second quarter run where he knocked down some shots, collected a handful of steals, and made some solid plays on both ends.  Finished with 8 points and showed off his range again in a dominant win for Germantown.
