The state of Minnesota takes center stage this weekend as the NCAA April “live” evaluation period tips off and NY2LA Sports will be front and center in the twin cities with the Spring Extravaganza April 19-21, 2013 at Hopkins High School and Minnetonka High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota. The star studded event will feature many of the nation’s top AAU programs and high school prospects like super sophomore Diamond Stone, junior standout Kevon Looney, etc. playing in front of NCAA Division 1, 2, 3, NAIA, and NJCAA college coaches who will be in attendance throughout the event. Here’s a preview of a few of the highly regarded matchups on opening night tonight…

MUST-SEE MATCHUPS - 17U DIVISION
Friday – 7:10 P.M. – Hopkins High School Court 3 – Iowa Barnstormers vs. Wisconsin Swing
Two of the most consistent AAU programs in the Midwest square off Friday night. Both the Barnstormers and Swing have talented, deep lineups, capable of lighting up the scoreboard, or playing in a defensive struggle. The Barnstormers are led by 2014 SF Casey Schlatter along with Northern Iowa commit Wyatt Lohaus, while the Swing feature electrifying PG Lamonte Bearden, sharpshooting SG T.J. Schlundt, and a strong supporting cast of shooters and big men.

Friday – 7:10 P.M. – Hopkins High School Court 4 – Milwaukee Rebels vs. Texas Select
Two of the nation’s top players will take face off when the Rebels and Texas Select take the floor. Emmanuel Mudiay, ranked No. 3 in the class of 2014, and Kevon Looney, ranked No. 5 in the class of 2014, will meet with each looking to prove themselves against one another. Also keep an eye on exciting prospects Myles Turner, Luke Kornet, David Burrell and Damontrae Jefferson in this one, all of which can turn some heads when the ball is in their hands.

Friday – 8:20 P.M. – Hopkins High School Court 2 – Quad City Elite vs. Wisconsin Shooters
Paul Miller and Jordan Perez have been off to a fantastic start this spring for the Shooters. Quad City Elite, led by Wisconsin commit Ethan Happ look to cool off the Shooters’ guard tandem. This is a solid matchup to tip things off on Friday.

Friday – 8:20 P.M. – Hopkins High School Court 3 – Net Gain Sports vs. TP Elite
Expect a fast tempo between Net Gain and TP Elite Friday night. Both programs feature speedy point guards who can fly in transition in Andre Wallace for Net Gain and Jarvis Garrett for TP Elite with the likes of David Jesperson, Tyler Miller, Levi Bradley, Jaylen Key, Donovan Jackson, and Dearionte Hudson also ready to make their mark this weekend as well.

Friday – 8:20 P.M. – Hopkins High School Court 4 – KC Run GMC vs. Ray Allen Select
Old friends are reunited as the nation’s No. 37 ranked player in 2014 Dominique Collier and KC Run GMC, take on Brady Ellingson, Riley LaChance, Reed Timmer, and Ray Allen Select. This one should be a good one.

Friday – 9:30 P.M. – Hopkins High School Court 3 – Gateway Basketball vs. Team NLP – JF
Touted sophomore forward Evan Boudreaux, along with talented guards Jevon Carter and Kurt Hall for a high scoring trio for NLP. Gateway Basketball features talented point guard Trevor Clay.

Friday – 9:30 P.M. – Hopkins High School Court 4 – IBA Select vs. Inland Empire
Two of the nation’s top post players will meet in Sean O’Mara for IBA Select and Inland Empire’s Keondre Dew. Both Top 100 prospects will be featured in a key individual battle that will help determine the outcome.

Friday – 9:30 P.M. – Hopkins High School Court 5 – Kingdom Hoops vs. Madison Spartans
Andre Neal, Jordan Shea, and Malik Clements lead a high-octane attack for the Spartans. Kingdom Hoops, led by Jay Knuth and Nate Gehring know how to shut their opponents down. Something will have to give in this one.

Sophomore Brandon Eckford and a strong and tough DTA squad look to continue their stellar play as they open things up on Friday night in Minnesota.

Friday – 8:20 P.M. – Hopkins High School Court 5 – Iowa Mavericks – Soyer vs. Young Legends
The nation’s top ranked player in 2015 Diamond Stone, along with his running mate Joe Binyoti make their debut and take aim at a strong 16U field with a game against the Iowa Mavericks in the first round of the 16U Showcase Championship format. 

Friday – 8:20 P.M. – Minnetonka High School Court 2 – Iowa Mavericks – Stephen vs. KC Run GMC
Sophomore PF Kevin Puryear leads KC Run GMC, leads one of the tournament’s favorites against the Iowa Mavericks.

Friday – 8:20 P.M. – Minnetonka High School Court 4 – Peoria Irish vs. Wisconsin Shooters
Talented guard Christian Williams and the Peoria Irish take on skilled forward Anthony Carver and the Wisconsin Shooters.

MUST-SEE MATCHUPS - 15U DIVISION
Friday – 6:00 P.M. – Hopkins North Junior High Court 4 - Iowa Mavericks vs. Wisconsin Academy
Touted freshman Sam Hauser and Trevor Andersen look for another championship this weekend in Minnesota. They’ll begin their next title run against the Iowa Mavericks.

Friday – 6:00 P.M. – Hopkins North Junior High Court 2 – Kingdom Hoops vs. Central Wisconsin Heat
One of the more intriguing first round matchups this weekend will be between these two teams. High-scoring Sebastian Baugh leads Kingdom Hoops against the heavy front line of Central Wisconsin Heat.

Friday – 9:30 P.M. – Hopkins North Junior High Court 2 – Peoria Irish vs. Wisconsin Blizzard – Kuranda
Both the Blizzard and Irish have solid players up and down their roster, which should make for an exciting battle in Friday’s nightcap.
