The NY2LAsports.com Spring Invitational tipped off on Friday night as teams from around the Midwest took the court at Homestead High School. Paul Miller from the Wisconsin Shooters came up clutch in a double overtime win over the IL Rising Stars Elite while Harrison Niego and Chicago Lockdown had a solid win in the 16s division over DTA.  Here's a look at that and more as we continue our coverage of opening night...

Top Performers
James Bateman -- 2015  -- G/F -- DTA Devin Harris
6-1 -- Milwaukee Riverside -- Milwaukee, WI

Bateman and DTA took a tough loss to Chicago Lockdown, but Bateman was solid attacking the basket and making plays for his teammates. James is adept at beating defenders off the bounce, especially going right, and can finish at the rim or find teammates if needed.

Malik Clements -- 2014 -- SG --  Madison Spartans
6-4 -- Madison West -- Madison, WI

Malik and the Madison Spartans had their way with Team Rose offensively and Clements did a nice job attacking off the dribble and keeping the offense moving with his passing. Coupled with Jordan Shea and Andre Neal, Clements forms a pretty potent offensive trio for the Madison Spartans.

Paul Miller -- 2014 -- SG -- Wisconsin Shooters
6-4 -- Kettle Moraine -- Waukesha, WI

Miller wanted the big shots for the Shooters in a double overtime thriller against the IL Rising Stars Elite. Miller had two key go-ahead three-pointers in the game's final four minutes to keep the Shooters in the game before staying aggressive and scoring a critical and-one layup in overtime 2 to help seal the deal. Miller finished with 17.

Harrison Niego -- 2015 -- G -- Chicago Lockdown
6-1 -- Lyons Township -- Western Springs, IL

Niego is a hard-nosed guard that handles and makes plays for others, but can also do some scoring if need-be. Harrison isn't an elite athlete, but knows how to play with the ball in his hands and also is good at dealing with contact from opposing guards, or help defenders as he gets in the lane.

Jeremy Stephani -- 2014 -- G -- IL Rising Stars Elite
6-1 -- Wheeling H.S. -- Arlington Heights, IL

Stephani finished with 28 points and opened eyes by shooting the ball very well from behind the three-point line in both halves of basketball. Stephani also had a nice two-dribble pull-up from the mid-range and distributed to teammates as well.

Star Watch
Mack Mercer -- 2014 -- PF -- Eric Gordon All-Stars
6-9 -- Plymouth H.S. -- Plymouth, IN

Mercer showed flashes during the April Evaluation period, but he definitely proved himself in a tight win over Ray Allen Select. Although I only caught the second half, Mercer was a force on the interior, defending and rebounding and also had some moves in the post that looked more efficient and confident than a few weeks back.

Matt Rafferty -- 2015 -- PF -- Chicago Lockdown
6-7 -- Hinsdale Central -- Hinsdale, IL

Rafferty controlled his area on the glass and also had some constructive post touches in a win over DTA. Because of his size and emerging skill set, Rafferty is currently the best prospect for a solid Chicago Lockdown team.

Stock Boosters
Andre Hogan -- 2014 -- G -- Team Rose
6-1 -- Harlan H.S. -- Chicago, IL

Hogan was one of the better scorers in the city of Chicago last high school season and he did some damage for Team Rose as they did all they could to hang with the Madison Spartans. Hogan loves to use the dribble to hunt his offense and does so to get to the rim or create space with the jumper. I'd like to see how well he sets up others, but he can definitely get buckets in a hurry if he gets hot.

Damien Stoneking -- 2014-- PF -- IL Rising Stars Elite
6-7 -- Woodstock H.S. -- Woodstock, IL

Stoneking was intriguing because of a solid set of hands and a pretty-looking jumper that extended to the three-point lineup. Conditioning and footwork will play a big part in Stoneking's development but he has some upside.

News and Notes:
Harrison Niego listed interest from Evansville, Indiana, Creighton, Drake, Northern Iowa, UIC and Valparaiso.
