The grassroots travel season was on fire in 2013 as prospects all over the country participated in camps, leagues and major tournaments with college coaches in tow working hard to land basketball players to help their programs in the future. August has been hot already with recent commitments from talented prospects like Nick Babb, Larry Austin and Ja’Quan Newton and the most recent one yesterday from Reed Timmer. With the travel season and live periods wrapped we look at some of the commitments from prospects the last few weeks in the following news and notes...

RECENT COMMITMENTS AND DE-COMMITMENTS
Marquette struck the trail on another hot 2014 prospect as SG Sandy Cohen of Seymour H.S. (WI) took himself off the board July 27th by verbally committing to play college basketball for the Golden Eagles. Cohen played for Playground Elite during the grassroots season.

Four-Star 2014 PF Malik Price-Martin of Northeast H.S. (FL) made his decision July 28th, verbally committing to USC to play his college basketball. Price-Martin competed with Team Breakdown during the grassroots travel season.

2014 PF Brekkott Chapman of Roy H.S. (UT) recently committed to play collegiate basketball in his home state, accepting the offer from Utah on July 29th. Chapman played the grassroots season with the Utah Prospects program.

Northwestern earned a verbal commitment from 2014 C prospect Gavin Skelly of Westlake H.S. (OH) on July 29th. Skelly went to work with Team Work during the grassroots travel season.

Villanova earned themselves an excellent floor general this summer with a verbal commitment from 2014 PG Phil Booth of Mount St. Joseph H.S. (MD) on July 30th. Booth played for Team Takeover throughout the grassroots travel season.

SF Riley Norris of Albertville H.S. (AL) added to Alabama’s 2014 recruiting class with his verbal commitment on August 5th. The Crimson Tide already received one commitment the previous week, July 31st, with Four Star PG prospect Justin Coleman of Wenonah H.S. (AL). Norris played with Team Thad during the grassroots travel season while Coleman played for the Georgia Stars program.

2014 SG James Blackmon Jr. has decided to think harder about his college plans and has reopened his recruitment, but Indiana will remain in the hunt for the prospect. Blackmon played for Spiece Indy Heat during the grassroots travel season.

2014 PG Larry Austin Jr. of Lanphier H.S. (IL) verbally committed his talents to Tennessee on August 1st. Austin competed with the St. Louis Eagles during the grassroots travel season.

2014 SF Jordan Barnett of Christian Brothers College H.S. (MO) is officially off the board to Texas with his verbal commitment to the Longhorns on August 1st. Barnett was playing for the St. Louis Eagles program throughout the grassroots travel season.

2014 SF Chandler Diekvoss of West DePere H.S. (WI) verbally committed to Richmond on August 5th. Diekvoss played for the WI Playground Warriors program during the grassroots travel season.

The Clemson Tigers received a verbal commitment on August 6th from 2014 SG Gabe DeVoe of Shelby H.S. (NC). DeVoe played for Team Heat (Forest City) during the grassroots travel season.

Coming off a big season, the Miami Hurricanes may have found their future lead guard with the recent commitment from 2014 PG Ja’Quan Newton of Neumann-Goretti H.S. (PA) on August 7th. Newton played the grassroots travel season for Team Final.

2014 SG Devin Mitchell of Collins Hill H.S. (GA) chose to bring his game to the Crimson Tide, giving a verbal commitment to Alabama Wednesday, August 7th. Mitchell competed with the Georgia Stars during the grassroots travel season.

2014 SG Troy Holston of Oldsmar Christian (FL) committed himself to play at South Florida on August 7th. Holston played for North Florida Elite during the grassroots travel season.

Robert Morris has high hopes for its recent class of 2014 pickup in PG Jafar Kinsey of Jamesville-Dewitt (NY) on August 7th. Kinsey ran with the Metro Boston program during the grassroots travel season.

2014 SG Keyshawn Woods of Northside Christian Academy (NC) has given a verbal commitment to Charlotte, Thursday, August 8th. Woods played for the Team Charlotte program throughout the grassroots travel season this year.

Miami (OH) picked up 2014 SF Roderick Mills of Saint Xavier H.S. (OH) who chose to stay in state to play basketball at the next level, verbally committing to the RedHawks on Friday. Mills played for the Queen City Prophets program during the grassroots travel season.

2014 SG Nick Babb of Martin H.S. (TX) became the latest prospect to accept an offer from Arkansas with his verbal commitment to the Razorbacks, Saturday, August 10th. Babb played with Texas Select during the grassroots travel season.

2014 PG Kevin Zabo of Brewster Academy (NH) verbally committed to San Diego State on Saturday, August 10th. Zabo played for CIA Bounce throughout the grassroots travel season.

Drake received a verbal commitment from 2014 PG Reed Timmer of New Berlin Eisenhower H.S. (WI) on Sunday, August 11th. Timmer competed with the Ray Allen Select (RAS) program during the grassroots travel season.

UPCOMING EVENTS
FUTURES CAMP - September 14, 2013
Milwaukee, WI
The annual exposure showcase returns on Saturday September 14, 2013 and is open to 2015 and 2017 prospects.  It will feature skill sessions and full length games with each participant receiving a reversible jersey and customized t-shirts as well as lunch and dinner.  The camp features an alumni that includes the likes of Semi Ojeleye, Deonte Burton, Duane Wilson Jr., Luke Fischer, Riley Dearring, Branden Dawson, Glenn Robinson Jr., Cliff Alexander, Kevon Looney, etc. and it will have members of the NBPA Top 100 Selection committed in attendance.  For more information on the 2013 NY2LA Sports Futures Camp CLICK HERE

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS FALL LEAGUE - October 19, 26 and November 2, 2013
Milwaukee, WI
The premier fall league for high school prospects in the state of Wisconsin returns in October for 2014-2017 (i.e. Freshmen-Seniors) prospects and will run from 9am-4pm each Saturday at Milwaukee Lutheran High School.  This is a perfect way to prepare for the upcoming high school season while also getting high quality exposure at the same time.  Each week participants will go through skill sessions and participate in 2 full length games with internet coverage online at NY2LASPORTS.COM and 414HOOPS.COM each week in terms of recaps, top performers, stock boosters, etc.  This league annually draws the top prospects in the state of Wisconsin with an alumni list that includes the likes of current college performers J.P. JUNIOR BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS FALL LEAGUE - October 19, 26, and November 2, 2013
Milwaukee, WI
The premiere fall league for middle school talent in the state of Wisconsin returns in October for 7th and 8th grade boys (i.e. 2018 and 2019 prospects) and will run from 5pm-9:30 pm each Saturday night at Milwaukee Lutheran High School.  The league focuses on skill development and building the foundation for future prospects with skill sessions and full length games each week for the participants.  The league will be covered in depth each week online at NY2LASPORTS.COM, 414HOOPS.COM, and our middle school affiliate at GENERATIONNEXTBASKETBALL.COM.  For more information on the2013 Junior Breakfast of Champions League CLICK HERE
