Each time he steps on the floor, the impact of 2018 shooting guard Cardell McGee (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) is noticeable. A high rising senior, McGee often shifts the momentum of a game several times with his above the rim ability.

Holding three scholarship offers going into his senior season, McGee is looking to set up official visits to all three programs.

DePaul: “I like the head coach (Dave Leitao). He’s a great coach. The campus is good. I’ve been down there a few times for camps. I love DePaul.”

Illinois State: “Their campus is nice. I went down there for an unofficial visit and worked out with them. That was a good experience.”

UT-Martin: “I really don’t know too much about them. They want me to come down for a visit. My assistant coach used to go there, so there’s that connection.”

McGee says no leader has emerged between the three schools.  “Everyone is still even right now,” he said. “I haven’t really figured that out yet.”

Nebraska, Drake, Illinois, Dayton, and Miami (OH) are expressing interest going into the season. The Flyers might add to the scholarship list of the 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard sooner rather than later.  “They’ve been asking me a lot about how basketball is going and how my family is doing,” McGee said. “Hopefully that continues to pick up.”

McGee is eyeing a commitment during or after his senior season. As thing stands now, he’ll likely sign in the spring.  “Right now, I’ll probably just play it out,” he said. “I want to make sure I pick the offer that’s best for me and my family.”

McGee played with Yanders Law and the Wisconsin Playground Warriors during the grassroots travel season.
