A top 100 prospect in the 2019 class, forward Jordan Mitchell (Columbus, Ohio.) has taken his talents down south. Now at Montverde Academy, Mitchell will suit up for one of the top basketball factories in the country.

Moving roughly an hour and a half from Gainesville, Mitchell has started to see more attention from Florida, who has already offered.  “Since I moved down there, they’ve been recruiting me hard and trying get me on campus,” Mitchell told NY2LASPORTS.COM. “I like how they let their big guys play the wing and outside on the perimeter. They get a lot of long and tall guys like me.”

Mitchell has other offers from Iowa, Ohio State, and Xavier. While he didn’t grow up a Buckeye fan, the Columbus native built a strong bond with former head coach Thad Matta and hopes to do the same with Chris Holtmann.  “Since they got the new coaching staff, I’ve been trying to build a new relationship,” said Mitchell. “I’m getting to know them better, it’s taking time. I still like them, though.”

Mitchell is picking up interest from West Virginia, Virginia, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Virginia Tech. He listed three programs who could be close to offering.  “Virginia, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia,” he said. “They just tell me to keep playing hard, keeping working on my game and getting better and stronger.”

The 6-foot-7, 190-pound forward has no favorites at this time and plans to play out next July before making a decision.  “Just taking everything in,” he said. “I’m looking at how I fit in the program, the style of play.”

Mitchell played with All-Ohio Red during the travel season.
