In a deeply talented 2020 class in the state of Wisconsin, Division 1 programs are going to have a chance to find some real gems in the coming years. While there’s some can’t-miss high major talent in the Badger State, there’s also plenty of under the radar sleepers who have already shown the ability to hold their own against the cream of the crop.

One of those prospects is Whitefish Bay (Wis.) Dominican 2020 point guard Abe Scruggs. A high-IQ, deceptively athletic floor general, Scruggs is fielding plenty of Division 1 interest as a sophomore, including two schools who seem pretty serious early.

Milwaukee: “They invited us to a practice a couple weeks ago. They’ve been sending me letters in the mail too.”

Montana State: “One of the assistant coaches came to a couple of our practices and AAU games. I’ve been talking to them quite a bit on Twitter, saying they have strong interest.”

Scruggs is also hearing from Green Bay, Northern Iowa, Wright State, and Western Illinois this season.

A high major program, Wisconsin, recently became involved as well. The Badgers hosted Scruggs on Saturday for their in-state rivalry game with Marquette.

"It was great," Scruggs said. "It was unlike anything I've ever been to. There was a lot of energy. It was hyped throughout the whole game. It was just great to be around."

Scruggs is off to a great start in 2017-18. Through three games, the sophomore is putting up 17.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per outing.

When it comes to picking a school and basketball program, Scruggs is looking to be competitive.

“I want a program that always tries to recruit the best of the best,” he said. “I want a program that has trust in me too.”

Scruggs played with the Wisconsin Shooters during the travel season.
