NY2LASPORTS.COM - NY2LA SPORTS EXTRAVAGANZA TIPS JAN 18TH
Antonio Curro — NATIONAL RECRUITING DIRECTOR - NY2LASPORTS.COM
The third annual NY2LA Sports Extravaganza will tip off January 18, 2010 with another solid field of teams and matchups as teams from Wisconsin will take on the same from Illinois in a solid night of action. All games will take place at Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wisconsin. Here's a rundown of the matchups and stay tuned to NY2LASPORTS.COM and 414HOOPS.COM for previews on the upcoming event.
4:00 p.m. - Evanston (Illinois) vs. Dominican (Wisconsin)
G Ryan Frazier-Chambers leads Evanston (6-6) in this matchup against one of the top young teams in the state of Wisconsin. Dominican has already passed a number of early tests including a victory over Milwaukee King earlier this season and is looking to do the same against Evanston in this one. Jr. F Iman Johnson, So. G Jamall Taylor, and Fr. PG Duane Wilson Jr. have all stepped up big this season.
5:45 p.m. - Brooks Academy (Illinois) vs. Nicolet (Wisconsin)
The tough well-coached Brooks Academy head into this matchup against one of the breakout teams in the state this year in what should be an excellent matchup. Brooks is lead by one of the top Jr. PG's in the Midwest in George Marshall Jr., a skilled instinctive talent who has a number of offers on the table including one from Wisconsin. Nicolet counters with Sr. G Myles Henry who's been at the top of his game this year but with a number of talented guards on both ends, this one may be decided in the middle and Nicolet offers up Jr. F/C Christian Williams, one of the top rising 2011 prospects in the Midwest.
7:30 p.m. - St. Josephs (Illinois) vs. Wisconsin Lutheran (Wisconsin)
The perennial power from Illinois takes on the defending Division II state champions from Wisconsin Lutheran in this one. Lutheran made a huge statement over the Christmas break with a statement win over previously unbeaten and top-ranked Division I Arrowhead and looks primed for another run toward their second consecutive state chip right now. It all starts with Jr. SF Flavien Davis who has been virtually unstoppable for Wisconsin Lutheran so far this year and he'll need to be once again in this one as St. Josephs offers up the likes of Brandon Carr, Manta Subauskas, and Wayne Simon, etc. This should be an excellent X's and O's game and Wisconsin Lutheran will need Jr. PG Terry Nash, and Sr. F Tim Rotruck to step up big in this one if the Vikings expect to come out on top.
