Monte Verde Academy (FL) is traditionally one of the top prep programs in the country, and they just snagged one of the best prospects out of Michigan currently, in talented 2019 point guard HARLOND BEVERLY (Farmington Hills, MI – R.E.A.C.H. Legends). A 6’4” point guard with good athleticism and a really nice feel for the game, Beverly wants to compete against the best around and continue taking his game to higher levels, while his recruitment stays red hot right now with offers from a multitude of high major Division I schools.

Coming off another hot spring in the NY2LA Sports Association and other events, the Michigan product feels like it was another successful run with his long-time friends and teammates. “I feel like this spring went well and that I played well… My teammates make it easy for me since we have great players at each position, it makes it easy for me as a point guard to distribute… I’ve played with them a long time, so it makes the chemistry easy and we just love playing basketball together,” Beverly stated.

With a big summer coming up for Beverly and his REACH teammates, he has his sights set on helping the team try and win their tournaments and leagues. However, Beverly is also busy in the gym and the weight room getting his individual game together and well-rounded. “I’m working on my body a lot and gaining weight, good weight for me, to get stronger and getting more athletic with it,” Beverly about his work out habits lately. He also commented “I’m working on my shooting and being consistent, working on my form and making sure I’m doing the same thing with it every time.”

As he continues to grind and make himself a better overall player, Beverly has captured attention with his ability to take over games on the offensive end. With his combination of size and athleticism, as well as great instincts and smooth feel offensively, Beverly is already enticing prospect for scouts. “I think my biggest strength right now is really understanding the game, because being able to read the defense and then attack in different ways makes me more of a threat as a scorer and as a distributor.”

Beverly has been picking up interest from a few schools like Wisconsin, Georgia, and of course Michigan, but he already has offers from a number of top quality schools. Those schools include the likes of Baylor, Michigan State, Ohio State, Xavier, Florida, Louisville, Minnesota, Missouri, and Texas, as well as Toledo, Arizona State and UNLV. “It’s been great… I know there’s still a lot of work to be done to get where I want to be at, but it feels good knowing I can go to college for free and it’s been a blessing,” the rising 2019 prospect said about his recruitment. He also took a few minutes to discuss some of the schools that have offered him…

BAYLOR – “It’s been good with the coaching staff, they were the first to make an offer… They always have good ‘bigs’ there and that makes it appealing for a guard like me.”

MICHIGAN STATE – “That’s the school that I grew up around, being in-state with them and Michigan… Coach Izzo is great and everyone knows his resume… They have some great guys there and I know a lot of people who have gone there to play basketball, it’s nice there.”

OHIO STATE – “Their coaching staff is amazing, between Coach Holtmann and Coach Johnson and the others, they’re great people and great coaches, winning Coach of the Year before and such. It’s also close to home which is cool because family can come watch and that makes it nice.”

XAVIER – “When you look at their roster, they don’t always have highly ranked players coming out of high school, but they always end up winning a lot of games each year. That shows they really know how to develop their players and get the most out of them and that’s really appealing to me, as a guard. Coach Steele has been there for so long, he knows the program so well and has been around it for a long time, now as the head coach.”

FLORIDA – “I’m going to Monte Verde next year, so it’ll be in-state for me. Their point guard will be there as a freshman next year, so there is some familiarity that will be there, and I’m excited to get down there and develop those relationships.”

LOUISVILLE – “They’re in the ACC and it’s a great conference. Coach Mack came from Xavier and had a great resume there, always getting his teams to the tournament. I’m already familiar with the coaching staff, like Coach Murray, so that’s been good.”

MINNESOTA – “The coaching staff is really good and it was nice getting the offer from them. They made a couple deep runs in the Big Ten tournament which is great. I look forward to developing that relationship more.”

MISSOURI – “Coach Mann, he’s from Detroit and played on the same AAU team as I do, so they’ve been recruiting me pretty hard, and Coach Martin came from Cal, but they have stayed on me. I took a visit there and it’s a really nice campus too.”

TEXAS – “Coach Smart, he’s a great coach and always gets the best out of his players. He’s great at getting some top talent and winning with it. They’re making me feel like a big priority, so I’ve been liking that relationship with them. They also came for an in-home visit and that went well.”

Beverly’s recruitment doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon and with his move down south to one of the nation’s top prep schools, he will have another opportunity to really shine. “I’m just looking forward to getting ready for college… I want to go down there and compete for a National Championship. I look forward to building great relationships with my new teammates and coaches,” Beverly said about the move down to Monte Verde Academy. About what else he hopes to get from the experience, the talented floor general said “I’m going to put in work down there and get ready for the college game… I’m hoping to develop my game around more high level players and coaches, and just do my best.”
