Loyola-Chicago bound Flavien Davis and defending state champion Wisconsin Lutheran headlines the NY2LA Sports Extravaganza which tips off on Martin Luthern King Jr. Day this Monday January 18, 2010. The third annual event will take place at Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wisconsin and it will feature three teams from Illinois taking on three teams from Wisconsin. Here's a preview of some of the details for the upcoming event...
Evanston (IL) vs. Dominican (WI) - 4:00 p.m.
Evanston currently stands a 8-7 after getting off to a slow start this season due to Sr. G Ryan Frazier-Chambers missing the first 12 games with an injury. 6-2 Jr. G Garrett Jones leads them into this contest scoring at a 21 PPG pace and in the first three games since his return 6-2 Sr. G Ryan Frazier-Chambers is averaging 13 PPG 4 SPG and 2 BPG.
Dominican sits at 9-2 after a loaded schedule that's included wins against the likes of Milwaukee King, Racine St. Catherines, Franklin, and Catholic Memorial this season. Balance has been the key as Dominican has shown solid depth and the ability of anyone to step up on any given night. So. G Jamall Taylor scores at a 10.2 PPG pace, Sr. SF Mikael is scoring 10.1 PPG, Jr. F Iman Johnson is scoring 9.8 PPG and collecting 5.7 RPG and Fr. PG Duane Wilson Jr. is scoring 7.3 PPG.
Brooks Academy (IL) vs. Nicolet (WI) - 5:45 p.m.
Brooks is 9-4 on the year and 6-0 Jr. PG George Marshall is the catalyst for Brooks. A skilled instinctive lead guard, Marshall has offers on the table from Wisconsin, Xavier, Ohio, Illinois State, Baylor, and Depaul as well as interests from a number of schools. He can get to the rim off the bounce, has range, and can create opportunities for his teammates as well. The interior features 6-7 Jr. F Keith Gray and 6-7 Jr. F Kevin Gray, twin brothers. Both are long interior prospects with Keith claiming offers from Northern Illinois and Ohio.
Nicolet has turned in a solid campaign so far this year and sits at 9-2 on the season with key victories over Marquette, Whitefish Bay, and Wisconsin Lutheran on their resume so far. 6-2 Sr. G Myles Henry leads the attack at 16.5 PPG and 6-7 Jr. F/C Christian Williams comes in at 11.4 PPG and a little over 8 RPG on the season.
St. Josephs (IL) vs. Wisconsin Lutheran (WI) - 7:30 p.m.
One of the traditional powers in the state of Illinois, St. Josephs sits at 10-4 on the season and currently stands atop their conference with a 5-0 record. Balance and team play is the key here as they feature 6-5 Sr. F Mantas Dubauskas at 12.5 PPG and 9 RPG, 5-11 Sr. G Wayne Simon at 11 PPG and 6-2 Sr. F Brandon Carr at 10.5 PPG. Simon also averages 4.5 APG along with 6-1 Sr. PG DeAndre McCamey who also averages 4.5 APG. Dubauskas is being recruited by Cal-Poly, Florida International, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, etc. Simon has interest coming from Lehigh, North Dakota, West Point, Cornell, etc.
Wisconsin Lutheran is the defending Division 2 state champion and currently sits at 8-2 on the year. After jumping out to a 5-0 start they stalled a bit dropping two in a row but have since ran off three in a row including a statement victory over Division 1 power Arrowhead who was undefeated and ranked as the top team in the state at the time. Key victories over Catholic Memorial and Wauwatosa East are also on their resume for the year. Loyola-Chicago bound Sr. F Flavien Davis is averaging 20.2 PPG and 7.9 PPG on the season for the Vikings. He has the ability to take over the game at any time and is an excellent rebounding forward on both ends of the court. 6-5 Sr. F Tim Rotruck brings 6.5 PPG and 6.1 RPG to the table and 6-0 Jr. PG Terry Nash contributes 6.7 PPG per night for the Vikings and Head Coach Ryan Walz.
