A day after landing a commitment from Steven Crowl, Greg Gard was dipping back into the state of Minnesota for another 2020 commitment. This time it came from Ben Carlson of East Ridge High School (MN) and D1 Minnesota. Carlson announced his commitment to the University of Wisconsin on twitter Wednesday afternoon.

In addition to joining his D1 Minnesota teammate in center Steven Crowl, Carlson also joins Johnny and Jordan Davis of La Crosse Central High School (WI), Lorne Bowman of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Prep (MI), and preferred walk-on Carter Gilmore of Arrowhead High School (WI) in the Badger’s 2020 recruitment class. As well Wisconsin already has a 2021 commitment from Chris Hodges of Schaumburg High School (IL).

Carlson is a consensus top 100 hundred ranked player nationally that adds a nice centerpiece to Gard and staffs already strong 2020 class. The senior picked Wisconsin over his other finalist of Iowa State, Minnesota, Purdue, Stanford and Xavier. In addition to his six finalist, he was also offered scholarships from Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, among others.

Carlson is a skilled and athletic forward with size at 6’9”. He is able to score at a high rate with his ability to take opposing forwards off the dribble well but can just as easily beat you from beyond the arc. Good inside out scoring threat that can be tough to matchup with. Expect Carlson along with Crowl to be a force in the Wisconsin frontcourt.
