Duke extended an offer to 2020 F Jaemyn Brakefield of Huntington Prep (WV) early yesterday and after a length recruiting process that featured a host of blue blood programs the talented and versatile forward didn't hestitate as he gave his verbal pledge to Coach K within 24 hours of receiving the offer.  With Duke being a target of his since he was young, the Huntington Prep standout who shined for Phenom University this past summer knew where he wanted to go right away.  We caught up with Jaemyn this afternoon to discuss his his commitment…

NY2LA:  Why did you choose Duke?
BRAKEFIELD:  Duke is a school I've always seen myself playing at.  I know I have an amazing opportunity to maximize my potential to its fullest and contribute right away to a team that competes for a national championship every year.

NY2LA:  What did you like about the coaching staff at Duke the most?
BRAKEFIELD:  I liked how much they believe in me both on and off the court.  I'm more than just a basketball player and in my conversations with the staff they get that and I think they want me to reach my full potential both on and off the court.

NY2LA:  What can Duke fans expect from you when you arrive?
BRAKEFIELD:  They will be getting a charismatic person who is loyal and who will strive every day to be the best person he can on and off the court.  My effort in the classroom will match my effort in practice and on the hardwood and I want to help bring Duke another national championship while also achieving goals I have for myself.  It's a great opportunity and I'm very thankful to have it.

Jaemyn is a versatlle forward that was among the league leaders in the Nike EYBL in efficiency this past spring and summer.  His range extends beyond the arc, he can finish with either hand, he's got bounce, and his overall ability to impact the game is scoring, passing, rebounding, etc.  Duke landed a consensus top 50 national talent with this commitment and the way things are shaping up it appears to be a perfect fit for the program and the player short term and long term.  Congrats Jaemyn on your commitment!

He played with the Phenom University EYBL program this past spring and summer.
