The high school season is right around the corner and while it’s great to look at various angles on which kids need to be looked at it’s equally important to pay attention to the high level impact talents that stand to be front and center throughout the season.  Every state has their own and Illinois is right there with them.  Today we glance at the Land of Lincoln with a look at the 10 players projected to be the possible alpha’s in the state so to speak this upcoming high school season given their roles and opportunities they'll get to impact the court this upcoming season…

Note – Listed in Alphabetical order - This is not an exclusive list

MAX CHRISTIE – 2021 – G – ROLLING MEADOWS (IL)
A highly coveted prospect and a consensus top 15 prospect nationally, Christie holds offers from a number of blue bloods already and he’s just starting to take flight.  At his best with the ball in his hands, Christie can score at multiple levels, create, and he can dominate regardless of the tempo of the game.  Projected as a high level impact prospect, Christie is primed for a big year at Rolling Meadows and you can expect him to generate big numbers and big headlines throughout the season.

ADAM MILLER – 2020 – PG – MORGAN PARK (IL)
An electric scoring talent who can flip the scoreboards when he’s clicking, Miller can play either guard position but his DNA is scoring the basketball.  Another high major prospect that is a consensus top 40 prospect nationally, Miller stands to be a huge part of the Morgan Park attack this season and you can expect some huge scoring outputs in the process.  One of the must watch prospects in the state for fans just wanting to see exciting prospects.

MARTICE MITCHELL – 2020 – PF – BLOOM (IL)
One of the those long versatile lanky type prospects that is just starting to stretch his legs on the court, Mitchell verbally pledged to Minnesota this week fresh off a stellar spring and summer campaign.  He can score at multiple levels, he’s a difficult cover, he rebounds, and he alters shots with his instincts, length, and bounce.  A fill the box score type, look for Mitchell to deliver some high caliber performances this season.

FRANK JAKUBICEK – 2020 – PF – CARY-GROVE (IL)
A Belmont commit, Jakubicek is one of those that will fly under the radar performance wise until you look up and he’s checked multiple categories in the box score while posting a powerful double double performance.  The key to him is not that he does it once but he does it consistently and he adds grit and intangibles to the court.  If you like quality basketball players that produce night in and night out and give a blue collar high energy effort to help you win games then Jakubicek is your guy.  An old school throwback who will have a big season for Cary-Grove.

CHRIS HODGES – 2021 – F/C – SCHAUMBURG (IL)
Already verbally pledged to Wisconsin, Hodges is another blue collar double double machine that’s a tough cover due to his strength and instincts.  He has nice feel, he can score with either hand, he dominates the glass, and he will deliver quality consistent performances.  In terms of pure production you know what you get with Hodges and this season expect him to take the next step in his development while delivering some dominant performances on the hardwood.

BRYCE HOPKINS – 2021 – F – FENWICK (IL)
A talented prospect who has grown up playing multiple positions, Hopkins benefits from his youth in that he’s comfortable all over the court.  He can score at multiple levels, he will fill the box score on occasion, and regardless of the tempo he will deliver with a high level of consistency.  Talented and dominant with a number of high level high major offers already on the table, Hopkins is primed for a big junior year.

ISAIAH RIVERA – 2020 – SF – GENESEO (IL)
Verbally pledged to Colorado State, Rivera was a bit of a forgotten man this past spring and summer in terms of headlines but you can expect that to pick back up this high school season as the focal point of the Geneseo attack.  He had a huge junior season and you can expect him to build on that with a strong senior year as well.  Look for big point outbursts and high quality floor production consistently night in and night out.

NATE SHOCKEY – 2020 – SG – YORK (IL)
The York high school standout is off the board to North Dakota already after a stellar spring and summer campaign with the Breakaway Basketball program.  Equipped with a lethal perimeter stroke and the ability to score in bunches, Shockey was exceptional at times during the travel season.  While not a name one would necessarily expect to see on this list, Shockey is one whose best basketball lies ahead and we expect him to have a strong and consistent senior campaign in Illinois this season.

DJ STEWARD – 2020 – PG – WHITNEY YOUNG (IL)
One of the fast soaring prospects in the country regardless of class, Steward is hitting his stride and that stride ran him all the way to a Duke commitment earlier this fall.  Electric with the basketball in the open court, Steward can change gears, break down defenders, attack in half court and open court sets, and he has the ability to flip the scoreboards scoring the basketball.  A multi-dimensional lead guard who can create or score on a dime, Steward powers the always tough Whitney Young attack and he will be one of the most exciting prospects in the state to watch in person this upcoming season.

MARCUS WATSON – 2020 – PG – MORGAN PARK (IL)
Verbally pledged to Wake Forest, Watson is a blur and he’s fun to watch when he’s got it going.  Equipped with speed, quickness, and explosion, Watson had a stellar spring and summer campaign that saw him grab offers from multiple levels.  While Miller is expected to be the primary scorer, Watson is right there alongside putting the ball in the basket and creating as well.  A tough athletic guard, expect him to open some eyes with high caliber performances this upcoming season.
