The high school season is in full swing and with the launch of the NY2LAILLINOIS.COM site last week it seems like a perfect time to release our initial Class of 2020 Top 40 Player Rankings for the state of Illinois.  The process to getting these rankings was to poll each of our contributing editors for the state of Illinois and then crunch the numbers to come up with a composite ranking for the state.  Only players that are currently attending high school in Illinois and playing in the state of Illinois were considered.  So with that being said here’s a quick glance at the top 10…

(1)  DJ Steward – PG – Whitney Young (IL) – Committed to Duke
Equipped with athleticism, handles, and an ability to score from each level, Steward continues to develop as a player and he looks better every time out.  Had an explosive summer that helped him land at Duke.

(2)  Adam Miller – G – Morgan Park (IL) – Committed to Illinois
A talented guard who can score in bunches, Miller has size, length, a solid frame, and the ability to score off the bounce and in a catch and shoot capacity.  He is one of the better pure scorers in the class nationally.

(3)  Martice Mitchell – F – Bloom (IL) – Committed to Minnesota
When it’s all said and done he could very well be the best on this board if he keeps developing as he’s trending.  Still raw in some areas, Mitchell has a 6-10 plus length frame, athleticism, and he drips with big picture potential.

(4)  Marcus Watson Jr. – PG – Morgan Park (IL) – Committed to Wake Forest
An ultra-quick guard with handles, athleticism, vision, etc.  Watson can create in half court sets and in transition and he’s improved his ability to finish from multiple levels.  Still under the radar a bit nationally, Watson has opened a lot of eyes with stellar play the past 8-12 months.

(5)  Keshawn Williams – PG – Bloom (IL) – Committed to Tulsa
Skilled and instinctive with nice physical tools, Williams is another one that is trending upward quickly.  Tulsa may have gotten a steal here as Williams best basketball is in front of him.

(6)  Ahron Ulis – PG – Marian Catholic (IL) – Committed to Iowa
Hard to follow in his brother’s footsteps considering the large footprint he left but Ahron quietly went about his business and produced with relative consistency.  He has solid handles, he sees the floor well, he creates, and he’s got the potential to be a quality floor general at the next level.

(7)  Isaiah Rivera – G/F – Geneseo (IL) – Committed to Colorado State
Another one who can score at multiple levels and take over a game in doing so.  Rivera is best with the ball in his hands when he’s in the attack mode and his ability to score is bolstered by quality finishing ability at the mid-range level and through traffic.  His perimeter stroke beyond the arc took a step forward this past summer.

(8)  Ramean Hinton – F – Curie (IL) – Committed to Southeast MO State
A tough physical talent who you want next to you in any type of battle.  Hinton is a double double machine with his ability to clean the glass and score from different levels on the court.  He plays hard and competes regardless of who he lines up against.

(9)  Tyler Beard – G – Whitney Young (IL) – Not Committed
A classic catch and shoot guy from the perimeter, Beard also can rip the nets on the one dribble pull up or get to the cup off the bounce.  Still developing as a prospect, Beard has shown and ability to do a number of things well in flashes.

(10)  Aquan Smart – PG – Niles North (IL) – Committed to ETSU
In a class that boasts a number of floor generals, Smart is talented in his own right.  He handles it, sees the floor, creates, and can score.  His ability to contribute in a variety of ways is intriguing and his best years on the hardwood could easily be in front of him.
