A long holiday weekend is in the books and while people were out enjoying three days with family and friends, a number of schools were hard at work securing verbal commitments, hosting prospects, and/or setting up visits for the remainder of the fall.  Chane Behanan assumes center stage Tuesday morning with an announcement on his intentions so today we’ll provide you with some news and notes from across the country starting with the pending Behanan commitment…

6’6” 2011 PF Chane Behanan of Bowling Green High School in Kentucky is scheduled to announce his intentions Tuesday morning and it would be an absolute shocker if he doesn’t choose Louisville and Head Coach Rick Pitino.  Kentucky, Ohio State, and West Virginia have also been rumored to be in there but we’ve felt for the past couple of weeks that Louisville would be the spot for him and anything other than that would come as a surprise.  Behanan made huge strides during the summer time starting with the NBA Top 100 camp where he was spectacular and he’s a blend of power, athleticism, skill, and effort that should make for an excellent talent at the next level.  He really impressed us with his development and improvement during the summer as he played with the Ohio Basketball Club.

Speaking of Louisville, they had a huge weekend as Coach Pitino & Co. played host to the likes of 2011 SF Quincy Miller, 2011 G Duece Bello, 2011 PG Josiah Turner, and 2011 PF Chane Behanan.  We’ve already discussed Behanan but don’t be surprised if Miller ends up at Louisville as well before it’s all said and done also as they are very high on his list right now.

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS FALL LEAGUE

The 2010 Breakfast of Champions Fall Basketball League continues to fill up with some of the best talent the state of Wisconsin has to offer.  The league will tip off on September 18th and run on Saturday mornings through October 30th at the M.S.O.E. Kern Center in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Many of the top 2011 - 2014 prospects in the state are already confirmed to attend along with an excellent staff of coaches with experience playing and coaching at the collegiate and high school levels.  The league puts a primary focus on skill development and conditioning in preparation for the upcoming season and it also includes full length game play that is taped and broken down statistically each week.  There will be daily and weekly articles on our Wisconsin affiliate at 414HOOPS.COM as well as coverage here at NY2LASPORTS.COM.  For more information including registration forms on the upcoming league CLICK HERE

RECRUITING UPDATES

Looking for one of the potentially big stories of next spring then look no further than 6’6” 2012 SF Cameron Beidschied of Cardinal Ritter H.S. in Missouri.  Beidschied took off this past spring at the annual Swish & Dish Spring Warm-Up and he’s seen his recruiting trail load up ever since.  A long wiry swingman with athleticism and the ability to stroke the jumper, Beidschied is currently regarded as the #66 2012 prospect in the country according to us here at NY2LASPORTS.COM.  He’s collected an offer from Saint Louis according to his grassroots travel coach Corey Frazier as well as interest from the likes of Notre Dame, Tennessee, Iowa State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Boston College, Detroit, Illinois State, Kansas State, Texas, Texas Tech, Missouri, Baylor, Colorado, and Oklahoma State amongst others.  Beidschied is on the cusp of exploding nationally over the next 12 months after a solid grassroots travel campaign with the St. Louis Eagles program.  Definitely one to keep tabs on as he has tremendous upside and potential with hard work.

6’7” 2011 SF Jake White of Chaska H.S. in Minnesota continues to see Division 1 program jump on his recruiting trail.  After a solid spring and summer campaign with the 43 Hoops program based out of Minnesota, White has collected offers from Wichita State, UTEP, Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, Colorado State, South Dakota State, Bucknell, and Navy as well as some interest from Iowa and Northwestern according to 43 Hoops program director Chris Carr.

6’6” 2012 SF Jeremy Hollowell of Lawrence Central H.S. in Indiana remains one of the most coveted wings in the country.  He’s collected offers from Indiana, Ohio State, Xavier, Louisville, Cincinnati, Tennessee, Illinois, Iowa and Indiana State as well as interest from schools like Florida, Purdue, and Michigan.  Indiana, Ohio State, and Xavier are the favorites right now but he hasn’t set a timetable on when he will narrow his list or make a decision.  Hollowell played with the Eric Gordon All-Stars during the grassroots travel season.

6’3” 2011 G Norman Powell of Lincoln H.S. in California is expected to make a decision shortly.  The explosive perimeter talent turned in a breakout performance this past spring with the Dream Vision program and remains one of the most sought after talents on the west coast.  While a host of high major programs are in the mix, the favorite to land Powell is Head Coach Ben Howland and UCLA.  We caught up with Powell late last month and he spoke very highly of both UCLA and San Diego State but all indicators point to an eventual Bruin commitment right now.

6’5” 2012 F Jordan Fouse of Racine St. Catherines in Wisconsin continues to see his stock improve over time.  The skilled and instinctive forward from the annual state power of St. Cats indicates that he’s’ getting interest from Nevada, UW-Green Bay, Creighton, and UW-Milwaukee right now.  He played with the Wisconsin Bobcats during the grassroots travel season.

6’2” 2012 SG Patrick Ingram of North Central H.S. in Indiana has added an offer from Ball State to his collection.  He also has offers from Indiana State, Southern Illinois, Saint Louis, and Eastern Illinois to date.  Ingram played with the Eric Gordon All-Stars during the grassroots travel season.

6’1” 2012 G Mike Gesell of South Sioux City H.S. in Nebraska continues to remain one of the best kept secrets in the country.  A talented combo guard with athleticism and skill, Gesell doesn’t get the respect he deserves nationally but he’s skilled, instinctive, and can really play.  According to his travel team coach Hank Huddleson, Gesell has collected offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Creighton, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, and Utah along with interest from Illinois and Kansas right now.  Gesell plays with the Martin Brothers Attack (i.e. formerly Martin Brothers Select) during the grassroots travel season.

6’0”  2014 G Riley LaChance of Brookfield Central H.S. in Wisconsin will take an unofficial visit to Iowa on October 2nd.  LaChance is one of the top 2014 prospects in the Badger state.  He plays with the Ray Allen Select program during the grassroots travel season.

6’7” 2012 PF Nick Osborne of Muncie H.S. in Indiana continues to see his recruiting trail fill up.  The blue collar physical skilled interior talent has collected offers from Ball State and Valparaiso and he’s getting interest from Stanford, Butler, Southern Illinois, Evansville, Indiana State, Dayton, Ohio, Xavier, and Miami (OH) according to his travel team coach Pat Mullins.  Osborne played with the Eric Gordon All-Stars during the grassroots travel season.

6’6” 2012 SF Matt Van Scyoc of Green Lake H.S. in Wisconsin is now getting some interest from Pepperdine.  A strong athletic wing with length and range, Van Scyoc has offers from North Dakota and Westpoint to go along with interest from Washington State, Iowa, LSU, Denver, South Dakota State, South Dakota, Toledo, and now Pepperdine.  As 2012 prospects go, Van Scyoc could become one of the biggest stories in the Midwest over the next 12-15 months as he has taken major strides on the court and has shown the athleticism and range to be a mid to high major talent before it’s all said and done.  He played with the Randolph Boys Club program during the grassroots travel season.

6’5” 2012 SF Otis Pirtle of Bradley Tech H.S. in Wisconsin has interest coming from Northern Iowa.  He’s also collected an offer from Indiana State as well.  Pirtle played with the Playground Elite program during the grassroots travel season.

TRAVEL TEAMS MERGE

The DTA and Milwaukee Spartans grassroots travel programs based out of Wisconsin recently merged to form the DTA Spartans program.  This has long been rumored to be taking place and was finalized towards the end of last month.  Both DTA and the Spartans programs have been key figures over the years with grassroots travel basketball in the state of Wisconsin.  DTA is annually one of the premiere programs in the Midwest and has helped foster the development of Devin Harris, Robert Jackson, Korie Lucious, etc.  The Spartans have achieved success as well on their end with tournament championships in Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Milwaukee in recent years.  Former Marquette standout and DTA program director Robert Jackson will oversee the high school ages while Anthony McHenry will handle the same responsibilities at the grade school level after directing the Milwaukee Spartans organization over the years.
