Another weekend has passed and while the recruiting scene was a bit slow over the past couple of days, there's still a number of things to discuss in today's News & Notes including information on the upcoming Generation Next Tip-Off tournament in November...

TOURNAMENT

The 2010 NY2LASPORTS.COM Generation Next Tip-Off will take place November 12-14, 2010 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  The first annual event will offer up separate elite and competitive divisions for Boys ages 9u-14u travel teams and/or 3rd-8th grade school feeder teams/programs.  The tournament will offer up a three game guarantee and multi-team discounts.  Our middle school affiliate at PHENOMNATIONHOOPS.COM will cover the event from top to bottom with additional coverage provided online at NY2LASPORTS.COM and 414HOOPS.COM.  The tournament already has commitments from teams in Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, and Illinois and is shaping up as a quality event on both the travel team side and the school feeder team side as well.  For more information on this tournament CLICK HERE

COMMITMENTS

A couple more commitments from Sunday...

6-5 G Nevin Johnson of Spring H.S. (TX) verbally committed to Creighton.  The Bluejays are building a very strong class in 2011 and Johnson adds to that mix.  Johnson played with the Houston Lynx program during the grassroots travel season.

6-3 PG Jordan Baker of Tempe H.S. (AZ) verbally committed to Pepperdine on Sunday.  Baker played with the Arizona Magic during the grassroots travel season.

5-10 PG Phil Gaetano of Choate Rosemary Hall (CT) verbally committed to Sacred Heart over the weekend.  He was also considering Cornell, Penn, and Brown.

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS FALL LEAGUE

The 2010 Breakfast of Champions Fall Basketball League continues to fill up with some of the best talent the state of Wisconsin has to offer.  The league will tip off on September 18th and run on Saturday mornings through October 30th at the M.S.O.E. Kern Center in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Many of the top 2011 - 2014 prospects in the state are already confirmed to attend along with an excellent staff of coaches with experience playing and coaching at the collegiate and high school levels.  The league puts a primary focus on skill development and conditioning in preparation for the upcoming season and it also includes full length game play that is taped and broken down statistically each week.  There will be daily and weekly articles on our Wisconsin affiliate at 414HOOPS.COM as well as coverage here at NY2LASPORTS.COM.  For more information including registration forms on the upcoming league CLICK HERE

RECRUITING UPDATES

2011 G Phil Greene of IMG Academy (FL) is expected to take a visit to St. Johns the weekend of September 24, 2010.  The talented perimeter prospect is originally from Illinois and he played with the Meanstreets program during the grassroots travel season.

2012 F Winston Shepard of Findlay Prep (NV) will head to Memphis for Midnight Madness.  The highly regarded junior confimed that he will take an unofficial visit the Memphis the weekend of October 15th.  He plays with the Dreamvision program during the grassroots travel season.

As mentioned yesterday, 2012 SF Matt Van Scyoc of Green Lake H.S. (WI) will take an unofficial visit to Miami (OH) this weekend.  The long athletic skilled wing indicates that Miami (OH), Bowling Green, UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, Drake, Northern Iowa, and William & Mary are the latest schools to enter his recruitment.  Van Scyoc played with the Randolph Boys Club during the grassroots travel season.

2012 F Cinmeon Bowers of Milwaukee King (WI) picked up an offer from Depaul as mentioned Saturday.  Bowers now sits with a trio of offers from Maryland, Iowa, and now the Blue Demons.  He plays with the Playground Elite program during the grassroots travel season.

2011 F Mike Shaw of De La Salle Institute (IL) had an in-home visit with West Virginia over the weekend.  Shaw remains one of the top available 2011 prospects on the board.  He has an in-home visit scheduled with Marquette University tonight according to his grassroots travel team coach.  He played with the Mac Irvin Fire during the grassroots travel season.

SHOWCASE
The 3rd annual FullCourt Fall Showcase will take place on October 9, 2010 at Minnetonka High School in Minnesota.  The showcase annually attracts some of the top prospects in the upper Midwest.  For more information contact Marquise Watts at director@netgainsports.net
