Another weekend is on the horizon which always seems to bring a flurry of commitments at some point every fall.  With that being said, we’ll wrap up the week with some news and notes from across the country including information on the 4th annual NY2LA Sports Classic this November…

The 2010 Generation Next Tip-Off will take place November 12-14, 2010 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  The tournament is open to boys 9u-14u teams (i.e. 3rd grade – 8th grade) and will feature elite and competitive divisions for grassroots travel teams and school feeder teams and programs alike.  A host of teams are already committed to attend from Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana.  The tournament features a 3 game guarantee with all 1st and 2nd place teams in each division receiving customized individual trophies/medals and t-shirts.  There are multi-team discounts for programs with more than one team entering.  For more information on the upcoming tournament including registration forms CLICK HERE

Speaking of upcoming events, the annual NY2LA Sports Classic is set to tip off November 26-27, 2010 with boys and girls varsity games as well as boys junior varsity and freshman games.  The event is annually the top high school event to tip off the season in the state of Wisconsin with a loaded field of teams once again set to compete on both the boys and the girls sides.  Highlights of this year’s event include Louisville bound McDonald’s All-American candidate 2011 SG Wayne Blackshear and Morgan Park (IL) taking on Iowa State bound 2011 G/F Elgin Cook and Head Coach Tom Diener’s Milwaukee Hamilton as well as a strong in-state contest between Wauwatosa East and Whitefish Bay Dominican featuring the likes of 2012 F Darrell Bowie, 2011 SG Jamall Taylor, 2013 G/F Anthony Carroll, and 2013 PG Duane Wilson Jr.  The girl’s side features its fair share of excellent programs as well with one of the many highlights of the weekend to be a matchup between Nicolet and Beaver Dam.  For more information on this year’s event including a complete rundown of the schedule CLICK HERE


A laundry list of prospects came off the board this past weekend as a flurry verbal commitments took place on Saturday and Sunday.  In addition to those already mentioned in the Daily Dime section, here’s a few more from this past weekend…

2011 SF Darius Nelson of Sheldon High School (CA) verbally committed to UTEP.  He is the younger brother of former Duke standout Demarcus Nelson.  Darius played with the Team Odom program this summer.

2012 SG Dominique Bull of the Tilton School (MA) verbally committed to Rhode Island.  He played with the BABC program this summer.

2011 F/C Tim Dixon of Oldsmar Christian (FL) verbally committed to Georgia.  He played with the Georgia Blazers program this summer.

2011 SG Jabril Trawick of Abington Friends School (PA) verbally committed to Georgetown.  He played with the Team Phenom program this summer.

2011 F/C Kenyatta Smith of Flintridge Prep (CA) verbally committed to Harvard.  He played with the BTI All-Stars program this summer.

2011 G/F Pat Connaughton of Saint Johns Prep (MA) verbally committed to Notre Dame.  He played with the Middlesex Magic program this summer.  

2011 SG Demetrius Pollard of Cape Henry Collegiate School (VA) verbally committed to Northeastern.  He played with the Wave basketball program this summer.


2012 G/F Charles Harris of Lake Forest Academy (IL) continues to see his stock grow by the week.  Already claiming an offer from Oregon State, Harris informed us that he’s also getting interest from the likes of Wisconsin, Butler, Cleveland State, Akron, Indiana, Detroit, Northwestern, Penn State, Xavier, Indiana State, Cal-Poly, Marquette, UIC, Georgetown, Michigan, TCU, Depaul, Nebraska, Iowa, Bradley, Ohio State, and Ball State.  He played with the Full Package program during the grassroots travel season.  

2011 SF Amir Garrett of Findlay Prep (CA) remains one of the most coveted talents left on the 2011 board.  Garrett informed us this past week that he’s collected offers from St. Johns, Gonzaga, Boston College, Arizona, Arizona State, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, and UNLV along with interest from Kansas and UCLA.  He also said that St. Johns and Oregon are showing the most interest right now but he has not narrowed his list as of yet.  He played with the Double Pump program during the grassroots travel season and also spent some time with the Belmont Shores program.  

2013 SF Jabari Parker of Simeon Career Academy (IL) has added an offer from Ohio State to his collection.  Parker took an unofficial visit to Michigan State this past weekend.  In addition to the Buckeyes, Parker holds offers from a host of schools including, but not limited to, the likes of Kansas, Illinois, Minnesota, Northwestern, Washington, Depaul, BYU, Baylor, Pittsburgh, Oregon State, Michigan State, Purdue, Texas, etc.  He played with the Mac Irvin Fire this past summer.
