BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE UPDATE
The final weekend of the 2010 Breakfast of Champions fall basketball league will tip off this upcoming Saturday (i.e. October 30, 2010) with each team playing 2 games in a tournament format to decide the league champions at the upperclassmen level for 2011-2012 prospects and the underclassmen level for 2013-2014 prospects. For updated statistics thru the first four weeks of the league CLICK HERE
2011 PG Ryan Boatright of East Aurora H.S. (IL) caused a stir this past weekend as he de-committed from West Virginia only a couple days after offering up his verbal commitment earlier last week. This is the second time Boatright has opened up recruitment (i.e. previously committed to USC as well). The common rumor floating around was that this particular de-commitment was caused by the commitment of 2011 PG Jabarie Hinds to West Virginia last week. An ultra quick athletic perimeter talent, Boatright is now rumored to be looking at Connecticut, UNLV, and Oklahoma right now.
Lots of buzz right now on the streets after Baylor struck with 2011 SF Quincy Miller and 2011 G Duece Bello late last week. Those are two of the premiere talents in the 2011 class nationally and were huge grabs for the Bears and Coach Drew. Baylor didn’t rest on the laurels this past weekend as they followed up a huge week on the commitment side by hosting 2012 PG L.J. Rose and 2012 SG Rasheed Sulaimon for unofficial visits this past weekend. Both Rose and Sulaimon are Texas high school standouts who are regarded as top 20 prospects nationally in the 2012 class.
2011 G Rodney Hood of Meridian H.S. (MS) is one of the hottest names left on the board. The strongest rumor right now has Hood ending up at Florida State but Louisville is making a late push but Mississippi State, Marquette, etc. are also in the mix.
2011 PG Quinn Cook of Oak Hill Academy (VA) has narrowed his list down to Duke, UCLA, and Villanova. Rumors have always been strong that Cook wants to be with the Blue Devils but given the past success of UCLA and Villanova with lead guards, both of those seem like very viable options at this point.
A busy past few days saw a number of prospects come off the board. Here’s a recap of what’s gone down including a few missed from earlier last week…
2011 C Michael Chander of Lawrence North (IN) added to a huge recruiting weekend for Xavier as he offered up his verbal commitment to Head Coach Chris Mack. Chandler played for the D-Rose All-Stars during the grassroots travel season.
2012 G D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera of North Central (IN) also dropped a verbal commitment to Xavier over the weekend. Both Rivera and Chandler are considered top 50 prospects in their respective classes so obviously these are huge grabs for Xavier. Smith-Rivera played with the Indiana Elite during the grassroots travel season.
Miami (FL) struck on the trail as well as 2012 SG Chris Bolden of Norcross (GA) verbally committed to the Hurricanes. Bolden played with the Georgia Stars during the grassroots travel season.
Head Coach Rob Jeter and UW-Milwaukee made a huge splash by securing a verbal commitment from 2011 PG Shaquille Boga of McCluer (MO). Boga had already collected a number of mid to high major offers and has seen his stock soar in recent weeks with high major programs in need of a lead guard. He played for the St. Louis Eagles during the grassroots travel season.
2011 C Forrest Robinson of Eastland H.S. (TX) verbally committed to North Texas over the weekend. He played with the Houston Select program during the grassroots travel season.
Alabama struck on the trail late last week as 6-7 2013 SF Shannon Hale of Science Hill H.S. (TN) verbally committed to the Crimson Tide. Hale played with the Tennessee Travelers during the grassroots travel season.
2011 SG Alex Carr of Minor Junior H.S. (AL) is off the board after verbally committing to Louisiana Tech. Carr played with the Birmingham storm this past summer.
Another Texas prospect came off the board over the weekend as 2011 PG Kyan Anderson of North Crowley (TX) verbally committed to Providence. Anderson is from Ft. Worth, Texas.
Northern Arizona struck on the trail as well with a verbal commitment from 2011 SG Danny Cheek of Corona Del Mar (CA). Cheek hails from Newport Beach, California.
Add Morehead State to the mix as well as 2011 PF Jeff Drew of Fishburne Military Academy (VA) offered up his commitment. Drew is from Little Rock, Arkansas.
Air Force flew onto the recruiting radar this past week with a verbal commitment from 6-6 2011 SF Daniel Grieves of St. Stanislaus College Prep. Grieves is from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
2011 PG Zay Jackson of St. Thomas Aquinas (LA) verbally committed to Murray State this past week. Jackson is from Hammond, Louisiana.
2011 PF Corey Hensley of Hargrave Military Academy verbally committed to Gardner-Webb over the weekend. Hensley played with the Tennessee Travelers during the grassroots travel season.
Last but not least was 2011 SG Bruce English of La Verne Lutheran H.S. (CA) who verbally committed to Loyola Marymount.
