BOYS VARSITY GAMES PREVIEW
FRIDAY – NOVEMBER 26, 2010 - @ Marquette University High School
1:00 p.m. Brookfield Academy vs. Milwaukee Pulaski
Brookfield Academy first year head coach Pat Clarey will hit the hardwood this season looking to replace the offensive firepower of departed senior Troy Huff and he’ll be tested right away by Milwaukee Pulaski who’ll feature 6-8 2012 PF Jameel Mckay, one of the top juniors in the Badger State. Mckay really came into this own this past spring/summer and he’ll be looking to get things started the right way for Pulaski this season with a strong opening game effort.
2:45 p.m. Racine Case vs. West Allis Central
One of the most intriguing matchups of the weekend as a talented Racine Case squad takes on a young but equally talented West Allis Central program now under the direction of Lou Chapman. Case hits the court with a senior backcourt that features versatile scoring threat Mitchell Farr and lead guard Najee Farr while Central counters with one of the top young guards in the state in sophomore lead guard Jarvis Garrett. Two very athletic forwards will matchup as well as Case will feature long athletic wing Alex Marzette and Central has Najeal McMillian in the fold. This promises to be an up and down contest that could easily showcase two of the top sleepers in the state this year with some solid talent on both sides of the court.
4:30 p.m. Waukesha South vs. Nicolet
Two of the top interior prospects in the 2011 class go head to head in this one as 6-10 Derek Hussinger of Waukesha South matches up with 6-7 2011 big man Christian Williams of Nicolet. Nicolet lost a number of impact players from last year’s team which should open up room for Williams to be the feature part of their offense this season while South will counter with big fella Hussinger and a solid supporting swingman Tim Woodford who can fill it up.
6:15 p.m. Franklin vs. Whitefish Bay
Another of the solid matchups of the weekend will feature a solid Franklin team against and equally solid Bay squad. Franklin is led by senior interior talent Nick Romanowski while the Blue Dukes offer up an interior talent of their own in senior Jamie Schneck. Romanowski can score in bunches around the basket and Schneck has the ability to do the same and pairs that with solid athleticism and an ability to step away to the mid range area as well. Mix in some solid supporting players on each side and you have the makings of a solid matchup between two teams looking to make some noise this season.
8:00 p.m. Dominican vs. Milwaukee Bradley Tech
A solid private versus public school matchup rounds out the first day as 2013 lead guard Duane Wilson Jr. and Dominican take on junior guard Christopher Jones and Milwaukee Bradley Tech. Wilson is one of the top young talents in the state but Dominican has a number of weapons at their disposal in this one as a healthy Jamall Taylor returns to the lineup and he can fill it up from anywhere on the court. Mix in athletic versatile forward Iman Johnson and junior guard Breon Jordan and Dominican has some pieces to make things happen this season. While Jones will carry a lot of the load for Tech this season, a hungry group of teammates led by junior forward Otis Pirtle are looking to do their part and this opening game matchup for both teams should be a nice test early in the season.
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 27, 2010 - @ Marquette University High School
1:00 p.m. Nicolet vs. Madison West
Day 2 of the NY2LA Sports Classic will tip off Milwaukee native Keith Stewart bringing his Madison West program to the event for a matchup against 2011 big man Christian Williams and Nicolet. Stewart’s Madison West squad is filled with some solid young talent and you can be sure that they’ll provide Nicolet with a solid early season test to kick off the second day of action.
2:45 p.m. Whitefish Bay vs. Racine Case
A solid contrast in styles could be the call of the day in the second game on Day 2 as big man Jamie Schneck leads the Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes against a quick and athletic Racine Case squad featuring Mitchell Farr, one of the top 2011 prospects in the state of Wisconsin. Case has a variety of versatile weapons and Schneck provides a solid interior post presence for Bay that should cause problems for Case.
4:30 p.m. Milwaukee Vincent vs. Franklin
Milwaukee Vincent will take to the court on Saturday looking to take some positive steps forward after losing a couple of its top players to prep schools this fall. A stern test awaits the perennial City Conference power as they will need to find a way to stop Franklin’s senior big man Nick Romanowski, expected to be one of the dominant performers this season in the state of Wisconsin.
6:15 p.m. Morgan Park (IL) vs. Milwaukee Hamilton
One of the feature matchups of the weekend without question, Illinois power Morgan Park heads to Wisconsin led by Louisville bound McDonald’s All-American candidate Wayne Blackshear for a matchup with one of the top teams in the state of Wisconsin in defending City Conference Champion Milwaukee Hamilton. While Blackshear is the mostly highly regarded talent on the court, Hamilton has an abundance of talent as well despite the losses of two starters from last season who transferred to prep schools this fall. The Wildcats of Hamilton will feature Iowa State bound senior wing Elgin Cook, ultra quick perimeter talent Giovanni Bray, junior big man Itavian Belcher, and another solid versatile wing in Haki Stampley. While Blackshear drives the ship for Morgan Park, the Illinois power also features some solid young talent in sophomore 6-9 Xzavier Tayler and sophomore perimeter talent Billy Garrett amongst others. You don’t want to miss what promises to be the matchup of the weekend in the state of Wisconsin as two of the best from the Badger state and Illinois take to the hardwood on Saturday night.
8:00 p.m. Wauwatosa East vs. Dominican
Another of the top matchups of the weekend looks to follow up a strong Illinois/Wisconsin battle with a strong in-state matchup between Tosa East and Dominican. Tosa East offers up a couple of excellent prospects in junior forward Darrell Bowie and sophomore wing Anthony Carroll, a transfer from Tosa West who’s one of the toughest and most explosive scoring talents in the state of Wisconsin. Mix in some solid young perimeter talent for Tosa East and they have a number of versatile prospects who can create problems for whoever they take the court against this season. Dominican will counter with one of the top sophomores as well in lead guard Duane Wilson Jr. as well as senior Iman Johnson, junior guard Jamall Taylor, and junior perimeter talent Breon Jordan. This one stands to be one of the most exciting matchups of the weekend with two excellent coaches on the sidelines, two great programs with tons of history, and two teams filled with some excellent prospects.
