A number of hungry young middle school prodigies hit the hardwood during the second week of the inaugural Junior Breakfast of Champions (“JR BOC”) League and 8th grade wing Alvin Burris Jr. shined bright with a strong overall performance. We continue our recap of week 2 of the JR BOC with a look at the top performances in the Phenom Division this past weekend…
UCLA
ALVIN BURRIS JR. – 2016 – G/F
Stat Line – 16 points (7-12 FG), 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 turnovers
A strong and powerful athlete, Burris turned in a nice all around floor effort and served as a dominant force both offensively and defensively this past weekend.
STEPHEN KRANINGER – 2016 – G
Stat Line – 6 points (2-4 FG), 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, 1 steal, 1 turnover
Was solid in terms of his overall floor contribution but would like to see him be more aggressive on the offensive end moving forward.
JEREMIAH WORDS – 2016 – F
Stat Line – 14 points (6-10 FG), 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 0 turnovers
Another solid and efficient floor effort filled with activity and efficiency in terms of his ability to finish and decision making.
EZEKIEL GUETHS – 2016 – C
Stat Line – 10 points (4-8 FG), 9 rebounds, 5 blocks, 0 turnovers
Served as a strong interior force on both ends as he attacked the rim, attacked the glass, and created positive chaos on both ends.
KANSAS
HARRISON CLEARY – 2016 – G
Stat Line – 9 points (3-6 FG), 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, 2 turnovers
Showed nice range and a smooth stroke along with some decent activity at times. Would like to see him be more active on both ends moving forward.
JUWAN MCCLOUD – 2016 – PG
Stat Line – 12 points (5-12 FG), 6 assists, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, 4 turnovers
Attacked the rim well, put the ball in the basket, made solid passes, and was active on the defensive end. Would like to see him continue to improve his efficiency moving forward.
JACK POPP – 2016 – G/F
Stat Line – 19 points (8-12 FG), 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals, 2 assists, 1 turnover
Captured Player of the Week honors with a resounding performance that was filled with energy and activity on both ends. Attacked the rim off the bounce, finished in transition, knocked down perimeter shots, and was active defensively.
ADAM WIECZOREK – 2016 – F
Stat Line – 12 points (6-8 FG), 5 assists, 4 steals, 3 rebounds, 0 turnovers
Another strong and efficient floor performance on both ends. Finished with consistency, was active on the glass, made plays defensively, and made a number of solid decisions with the ball. Excellent effort.
NORTH CAROLINA
DARPEIRREONTAE BURT – 2017 – C
Stat Line – 8 points (4-6 FG), 11 rebounds, 2 steals, 4 turnovers
Was active on the glass and finished with consistency as well. Would like to see him be more aggressive on the offensive end and be more active defensively moving forward.
JADEN CHAMPION – 2017 – G
Stat Line – 11 points (5-7 FG), 3 assists, 1 rebound, 4 turnovers
Was solid with his dribble penetration and ability to attack the rim off the bounce. Would like to see him become more active on both ends and find more of a balance between scoring and playmaking moving forward to he can have a more complete floor game.
MICHAEL FERRICI – 2016 – F
Stat Line – 9 points (3-12 FG), 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 steal, 1 turnover
Was active defensively and played hard on the offensive end as well but struggled at times finishing. Would like to see him be more active on both ends and continue to improve his efficiency in terms of finishing around the basket.
SEAN KUCK – 2016 – G
Stat Line – 11 points (4-9 FG), 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 4 turnovers
Was solid at times and showed solid range on his perimeter stroke. Has the ability to really take his game to another level at times but needs to stay aggressive and active on both ends from start to finish moving forward to do so.
DUKE
VIRSHON COTTON – 2017 – PG
Stat Line – 6 points (3-13 FG), 4 steals, 1 assist, 1 turnover
Was active defensively and aggressively attacked the rim but struggled finishing at times. Would like to see him look to create more offensively and be more efficient with his decision making moving forward.
TERRENCE LEWIS – 2017 – F
Stat Line – 9 points (3-9 FG), 5 rebounds, 1 block, 1 turnover
Was solid at times and was active on the glass in spurts as well. Needs to elevate his activity and aggressiveness on both ends moving forward.
JOSH MUELLER – 2016 – C
Stat Line – 8 points (3-9 FG), 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 turnovers
Finished around the basket at times but wasn’t as aggressive or active on either end in comparison with his first week. Needs to improve in both of those areas moving forward and make a concerted effort to give consistently dominant performances every time he takes the court.
