The 2nd annual NY2LA Sports Summer Sizzle tipped off this past weekend and the opening day featured a number of solid performances from Joyneisha Howard.  We continue our recap of this past weekend with a look at some of those who impressed on day 1 of the tournament…

RENEE BENNETT – 2013 – F/C – PLAYGROUND ELITE
(6-3/180 – Muskego H.S. – Muskego, WI)

Talented young interior prospect with solid instincts and an above average skill set, Bennett was impressive on day 1 as she finished around the basket, showed solid instincts and footwork in the post, and stepped away from the basket to knock down some 15-17 foot jump shots as well.  Has solid post defensive skills and the ability to make things happen on both ends of the court.

JOYNEISHA HOWARD – 2012 – PF – LADY MEANSTREETS
(6-2/165 – East St. Louis H.S. – East St. Louis, IL)

A tough physical interior talent who’s not afraid to get after it in the paint, Howard was dominant on the glass throughout the day and also showed solid athleticism and an ability to finish around the basket as well.  Played hard on both ends and her activity and willingness to be aggressive and play through contact was impressive on day 1.

ANNABELL LANSDOWN – 2013 – G – FULL PACKAGE ELITE
(5-5/115 – York H.S. – Elmhurst, IL)

A solid perimeter talent with handles, Lansdown served as a catalyst for a Full Package Elite squad that was impressive throughout the day.  She was solid defensively, showed nice instincts on both ends, and was impressive with dribble drive attacks and finishes as well.  Really showed a nice floor game on day 1.

BRIA STALLWORTH – 2015 – G – ILLINOIS XCITEMENT
(5-7/125 – Marist H.S. – Tinley Park, IL)

A talented guard with range, Stallworth delivered a number of quality performances on Saturday as she showed excellent range beyond the arc, a solid mid-range game, and the ability to handle the ball and score as needed.  A quality overall performance.

LEXI WEITZER – 2013 – F/C – WBA PRESTIGE TEAL
(6-2/180 – Waukesha South H.S. – Waukesha, WI)

Delivered a couple of strong performances on Saturday as she showcased range, skill, and solid instincts on both ends of the court.  Finished on blocks, stepped away to knock down jumpers, and served as a dominant force at times on both ends of the court.  A solid opening day effort.

JAZMINE HARRIS – 2014 – G/F – WBA PRESTIGE TEAL
(6-0/160 – Heritage Christian – Milwaukee, WI)

A solid all around talent with skill and instincts, Harris scored off the bounce, knocked down jumpers, and finished in transition.  She is versatile, skilled, and talented and can play anywhere on the court with positive results.  Impressed on day 1.

KANDACE TATE – 2014 – F – ILLINOIS XCITEMENT
(6-3/180 – Morgan Park H.S. – Homewood, IL)

A young post with upside, Tate showed a nice versatile offensive package filled with scoring on the block, attacking off the bounce, and decent range.  Plays through contact well and has solid instincts and activity on the defensive end of the floor as well.  One to watch moving forward.

GRACE VANDERWEIDE – 2015 – SG – KINGDOM HOOPS ELITE
(5-10/120 – Valley H.S. – West Des Moines, IA)

Delivered a breakout performance in an opening round playoff victory over the Illinois Magic as Vanderweide dropped 20 points on a variety of dribble drives, jumpers, and even one trey ball.  Has a solid skill set, nice range, and showed an ability to put the ball in the basket and take over the game in an electric Saturday night performance on day 1.
