The annual Summer Sizzle came to a close with Championship Sunday as 5th-11th grade girls from various parts of the upper Midwest hit the hardwood looking to hoist championship hardware at the end of the day.  Talented sophomore Celeste McGee was one of many who shined bright as the ultra quick perimeter talent knocked down a semi-final last second shot and served as a driving force in helping lead her team to the 16U title.  We continue our look back at the 2012 Summer Sizzle with our day 2 recap now…

Sierra Bisso – 2013 – G – Full Package Elite
(5-5/130 – Wheaton Warrenville South H.S. – Wheaton, IL)

Lead her team to the 11th grade championship after close games in the quarter and semifinals Sunday morning. She was scrappy, showed toughness and was able to step out and hit the 3 or drive to the bucket.  She was definitely able to make things happen on both ends of the court.

Ashanti Davis – 2014 – SF – Illinois X-CITEMENT
(5-11/155 – Lyons Township H.S. – La Grange, IL)

Versatile inside/outside player who showed long range from 3. She looked to get her teammates involved and had great instincts on both ends of the court. She delivered a few solid performances day 2 to help lead her team to the semis in the 10th grade division.

Laken James – 2014 – SG – WI Blizzard
(5-6/140 – Oconto H.S. – Oconto, WI)

Dominant all weekend, James delivered great performances again on day 2. Her team lost to the eventual champions in the semis but she proved herself to be one of the top performers of the day. She was consistent on the offensive end hitting jumpers and scoring off the dribble-drive. Defensively she was all over the court. A great all-around performance.

Celeste McGee – 2014 – G – Playground Elite
(5-8/140 –Milwaukee Vincent H.S. – Milwaukee ,WI)

McGee showed her skills with solid performances on day 2 leading her team to the 10th grade championship. She had a balanced attack and was able to get to the rim at will.  She ran the floor well and showed great speed and quickness along with exceptional defensive instincts as she brought positive chaos to the court, was explosive and served as a dominant force at times on both ends of the court.

Jade Ramirez – 2015 – G – Madison Spartans
(5-3/125 – Wayland Academy – Beaver Dam, WI)

Floor leader all the way. Ramirez showed she could drive to the basket and step out and hit the 3. Looked to get her teammates involved and balanced the floor well. She was tough on the defensive end with raw offensive skills. Ramirez was definitely on top of her game throughout the weekend and she shined bright on the final day as she guided her team to the 15U Platinum Championship.

Madison Agey -2014 – PG – Kingdom Hoops Elite
(5-6/125 – Valley H.S. – West Des Moines, IA)

Agey is a true point guard all the way. She showed a nice offensive package being able to hit the mid-range, get to the basket and step out and hit the 3. She was very good at getting her teammates involved and defensively she was everywhere making things happen on day 2.

Jessica Kelliher – 2015 – F – WBA Prestige
(6-0/170 – Waukesha North H.S. – Waukesha, WI)

Had 2 excellent performances on day 2 scoring 14 points in game 1 which helped lead her team to the 9th grade championship game where she scored 8 points. She showed she has the ability to score in the post and also step away from the basket and hit the 3. Defensively she was dominant in the post and showed an overall great effort day 2.

Shami Goodman – 2014 – G -  Illinois X-CITEMENT
(5-8/135 - Morgan Park H.S. – Chicago, IL)

Goodman put on a show day 2 with a 34 point performance in the 11th grade semifinals. Not only did she connect on 5 trey balls but she was also 9-10 from the free throw line. Her versatility and ability to score really made her stand out on day 2 as she was electric at times and brought X-CITEMENT to the gym once she entered it!

Terese McMahon – 2013 – F - Full Package Elite
(6-0/145 – Lakes H.S. – Lindenhurst, IL)

Alongside MVP and teammate Sierra Bisso, McMahon helped lead her team to the 11th grade championship where she had a stand out performance scoring a game-high 22 points. She showed an inside presence but was also able to step away and hit the jumper.  Her toughness on the defensive end is what helped her team pull away for the victory.

Breahna Butler 2016 – G – Playground Elite
(5-5/125 – Milwaukee ,WI)

Butler proved to be a force for her team this weekend. She helped lead them to the semifinals where her team fell to the eventual champions of the 8th grade division, Kingdom Hoops. She had strong performances on both ends of the court showing that she has the ability to step out and hit the 3, get to the basket and score or settle for a mid-range jumper. Defensively she was very active and was always looking to make things happen.

Gabby Green – 2015 – PG – WBA Prestige
(5-5/125 – Milwaukee PIUS XI – Milwaukee, WI)

Young, athletic PG with a lot of speed and toughness. Green showed she has range and can be a floor leader for her team. She is definitely one to watch.

Marsha Howard – 2015 – F - Lady Meanstreets
(6-0/150 – Morgan Park H.S. – Dixmoor, IL)

Howard showed consistency again on day 2. She has great size and was able to score in the post, hit jumpers and get to the free throw line. With her size and versatility she is one to keep on the radar.

Shaquinta Lee – 2016 – G/F – Madison Spartans
(5-8/135 – West H.S. – Fitchburg, WI)

Lee was instrumental in helping lead her team to the 9th grade championship day 2. She showed a true presence on the court and was able to play inside/outside when needed.  Her versatility, toughness and strength really showed through on day 2.

Ellie Ruffridge – 2017 – G – Kingdom Hoops Elite
(5-2/95 – Pocahontas Area M.S. – Pocahontas, IA)

The 8th grade Co-MVP of the tournament put on several great performances throughout the weekend. She showed she has the ability to create and get to the basket, hit the mid-range jumper and also the 3. She was able to make things happen for her teammates which helped lead them to the championship Sunday afternoon.
