Week 5 of the 2009 NY2LASports.com Breakfast of Champions ("BOC") League saw a number of solid performances from young prospects hungry to improve and take their games to another level.  After looking at the best of the best both as a collective group and by position the past couple of days as well as the Eastern Conference teams yesterday, today we take a look at some of the top performances by teams with a look at the five teams that make up the Western Conference of the 2009 BOC.  So without further delay, here's a look as some of those prospects who made key contributions to their teams effort this past weekend...

HORNETS
2010 PG Steve McWhorter
Another excellent floor game to the tune of 15 points on 6 of 11 shooting, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.  Took over the game in the 2nd half and helped team come back to capture another victory.  Solid showing once again and finds ways to contribute with and without the basketball.

2010 SG Brett Meinecke
Another solid effort and arguably his best of the fall as he finished with 14 points 3 rebounds 3 assists and 1 steal.  Was 6 of 12 from the field and took his aggressiveness up a bit on the offensive end.  Needs to do that once again on both ends of the floor during the playoffs this Saturday.

2011 C Derek Hussinger
Took his effort and aggressiveness up a notch on the defensive end of the floor this past weekend and it paid off as he finished with 7 rebounds and 6 blocked shots.  Offensive skills are very raw but he continues to take steps forward during the skill sessions and is getting into better shape.  Best years of basketball lie ahead if he continues to put in the work.

2012 F Sheldon Cooks
Shot selection was very poor (i.e. 5 of 17 from the field) but still was very active and made better decisions down the stretch to finish with 14 points and 13 rebounds.  Needs to play hard consistently and improve his ability to finish with more consistency to take his game up a level.  Still, solid activity, attacked the glass, and made things happen on both ends of the floor.  Solid contribution this past weekend.

LAKERS
2011 SG Haki Stampley
Performance dipped a bit this past weekend after capturing week 4 M.V.P. honors and it really came down to his shot selection, decision making, and activity without the ball that was the reason.  Finished with 15 points on 6 of 13 shooting but was only 2 of 9 from beyond the arc and that's the first time this fall he settled for the trey ball instead of attacking the rim.  Grabbed 4 rebounds and collected 2 steals but struggled with a few unforced turnovers as well.  Everyone has an occasional sub par day but when you consider that on his he still hit for 15 points and made some other solid contributions, that says something for what his potential is.  Solid contributions and made some key shots during a second half run but he can be much better and I expect him to come out and explode with a solid effort during the playoffs on Saturday.

2011 PG Charles Lee
For 10 minutes in the 2nd half he was completely dominant on both ends and finished with 21 points on 8 of 11 shooting, 4 assists, and 2 steals.  Need to see him take that effort to the entire game and that would be something special to see.  Made much better decisions with the ball, shot selection was better, and was overall more efficient that previous weeks.  Solid performance.

2012 F/C Phillip Nolan
Didn't give the same effort this past weekend as previous weeks.  Finished with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists and a blocked shot on 5 of 9 from the field.  Activity needs to step it up from start to finish as every week he shows flashes but hasn't put a complete game together yet.  The playoffs this Saturday is a perfect time for him to explode on the scene with a complete effort.  Decent contribution but he can be better and it all starts with his activity and effort on both ends of the court.

MAVERICKS
2010 PG Dylan Wilcox
Thought he made a solid contribution and played hard this past weekend to finish with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.  Decision making was solid and contributed with and without the ball with a solid floor effort.

2011 SF Roy Marshall
Hit for 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting, grabbed 7 rebounds, kicked out 3 assists, and blocked 2 shots in a solid and more efficient performance.  Effort from start to finish needs to improve on both ends and had a tendency to stand on the perimeter too much.  Decision making was better and made some key baskets down the stretch inside the final 10 minutes to help seal the victory.

2012 G Arroyo Edwards
Turned in arguably his best floor game so far as he hit for 12 points on 6 of 12 shooting, kicked out 4 assists, collected 3 rebounds, grabbed 3 steals and blocked a shot. Was more efficient, made better decisions, and only had 1 turnover despite handling the basketball for most of the game.  Continues to take steps forward each week and he was excellent this past weekend.

2012 PG Brandon Marquardt
Was decent once again but shot selection was poor as he was 3 of 9 from the field.  Finished with 7 points, collected 4 rebounds, kicked out 3 assists and grabbed 2 steals.  A decent effort but he can be better and it all starts with continuing to improve his decision making and learning curve on when to attack to kick and when to attack to score.  Excellent instincts, decent contributions, and look for him to take his game up another level this weekend.

2012 PF Jordan Fouse
Turned in his best offensive performance to date as he hit for 12 points on 6 of 9 shooting and was more aggressive in attacking the rim.  Collected 4 rebounds, grabbed 4 steals, blocked a shot, and had one assist as well.  Another solid effort for him as he continues to produce in efficient high quality fashion each and every week.

NUGGETS
2010 PG Dwayne Brantley
He was solid once again to the tune of 6 points on 3 of 8 hooting, 8 rebounds, an assist and one steal.  Playmaking needs to improve but he is active, has solid dribble penetration skills, and plays hard.

2011 PG Nimrod Hilliard
Gave a much better effort and was efficient in the process this past weekend to finish up with 11 points on 4 of 6 shooting including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 block, and one steal.  Needs to get more active defensively from start to finish but he turned in another solid effort this past weekend.

2011 G Christopher Souter
Gave a great effort this past weekend and was much more active and aggressive on both ends of the floor.  Hit for 16 points on 8 of 12 shooting, grabbed 5 rebounds, kicked out 2 assists and collected 2 steals.  Was efficient, made good decisions and turned in his best performance to date.  Looking for him to really take it up a couple of levels during the playoffs on Saturday both with and without the basketball.  Excellent showing this past weekend.

ROCKETS
2010 F Flavien Davis
Gave a solid offensive effort to the tune of 21 points on 9 of 18 shooting, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Struggled a bit with turnovers and lost his focus at times in the 2nd half which affected his performance.   Attacked the offensive glass well.  Needs to give a better effort on the defensive end of the floor and make better decisions with the basketball.  Solid effort but he can be better.

2010 G Sam Savaglio
Turned in his best effort his fall as he hit for 4 points, grabbed 4 steals, collected 3 rebounds, blocked 2 shots, and kicked out 2 assists.  His activity was better this weekend than past weekends and it showed up with a solid floor effort.  Hoping to see an even better performance this weekend.

2011 C Michael Reinke
Gave his best performance to date as he finished with 11 points on 5 of 7 shooting and collected 12 rebounds while also blocking a shot.  Can't say enough about his improvement this fall.  Still struggled a bit with catching and finishing at times but as he gets into better shape and improves his lower half agility, his game will continue to take off.  Solid effort this past weekend.

2012 G Jamall Taylor
Turned in another solid and efficient shooting performance with 18 points on 8 of 11 shooting including a couple of trey balls.  Also kicked out 3 assists.  Would like to see his effort without the basketball step up and also his activity on the defensive end of the floor to continue the development of his game.  Solid effort and has really shot the basketball well this fall.

2012 SF Otis Pirtle
Continues to take steps forward in terms of his floor production and this past weekend it was his playmaking as he kicked out 7 assists, finished with 6 points, and grabbed 5 rebounds.  Defensive activity wasn't as good this past weekend.  Needs to continue to improve his ability to handle the basketball as that will help his slashing offensive game out significantly.  Solid contribution and effort at times this past weekend.

2013 PG Duane Wilson Jr.
Turned in arguably his best performance this fall as he hit for 9 points on 4 of 11 shooting, kicked out 7 assists, collected 5 rebounds, grabbed 4 steals and blocked a shot.  Continues to improve in terms of finding the balance between creating and scoring which is always the rub with a young lead guard.  Made excellent contributions both with and without the basketball and turned in a solid overall effort once again.
