Week 2 of the 2009 NY2LASports.com Breakfast of Champions ("BOC") League saw a number of solid performances from young prospects hungry to improve and take their games to another level.  After looking at the best of the best both as a collective group and by position the past couple of days as well as the Eastern Conference teams yesterday, today we take a look at some of the top performances by teams with a look at the five teams that make up the Western Conference of the 2009 BOC.  So without further delay, here's a look as some of those prospects who made key contributions to their teams effort this past weekend...

HORNETS (Record 0-1)

A few solid individual efforts were overshadowed by turnovers and a lack of ability to make plays and create this past weekend as the Hornets fell in their divisional play debut.  Effort was there but floor generals need to step up in the coming weeks along with activity on the glass and defensive end of the floor.

2010 SG Brett Meinecke
Had a decent output this past weekend as the Sussex Hamilton standout hit for 8 points on 4 of 8 shooting.  Only issue here was that was all that was brought to the table.  Would like to see him more assertive attacking the glass and trying to create and make things happen offensively.  Showed solid ability to get to the rack and a decent mid range stroke this past weekend.

2011 PG Devin Steele
The ultra quick and active Steele showed flashes of his potential this past weekend but his performance wasn't as strong as the week before.  Nevertheless, Steele played hard and finished with 4 points, a couple assists, and a couple rebounds.  Has excellent playmaking potential and the ability to create havoc on both ends of the floor, needs to be assertive in both areas in the coming weeks.  Struggled a bit with turnovers as well so needs to turn that around in the coming weeks.  Solid effort, made some things happen, but he can be better and I expect him to do just that in the coming weeks.

2011 C Michael Reinke
Big wide body interior talent who continues to take steps forward each week.  He played hard, played physical, grabbed some rebounds, and showed solid instincts.  Continues to improve and looking forward to seeing where he's at when the league is complete as he keeps working hard and improving week in and week out.

2012 F Jordan Fouse
Really like this young talent who's an undersized 4 man right now with nice instincts.  Was active on both ends and contributed across the board as he hit for 4 points, collected 6 rebounds, blocked a shot, had one steal, and also kicked out an assist.  Made good decisions, ran the floor well, and made things happen.  Look for him to build on a solid week 2 effort with some nice performances in the coming weeks.  Solid effort last weekend.

2013 G DeAndre Harris
Really like the way this young perimeter talent continues to play as he's aggressive, plays hard, and is active on both ends of the floor.  Attacked the rim well this past weekend to the tune of 9 points but also grabbed 4 rebounds and kicked out 1 assist.  Decision making needs to improve as he struggled with turnovers but that's always the case with young guards who try and make things happen.  Harris played very well this past weekend and looking forward to seeing his progression week in and week out as he turned in a solid floor effort to build on.

 
LAKERS (Record 1-0)

One of the best overall team efforts was turned in here as they moved the ball well, had solid balance, and had guys step up with solid individual performances as well.  Would like to see them turn it up a bit in terms of their intensity on both ends as it will elevate their play even further but solid week 2 effort nonetheless.

2011 PG Charles Lee
Turned in the top playmaking effort of the week as Lee kicked out 6 assists and only had a couple turnovers.  Also hit for 8 points but was only 3 of 9 from the field.  Showed solid playmaking instincts, nice vision, and was a catalyst in the 2nd half run that allowed the Lakers to pull away and grab the victory.  Solid showing last weekend.

2011 SG Haki Stampley
Turned in an exceptional effort this past weekend as he scored in the flow of the game, was aggressive in attacking the glass, and also made some nice decisions.  Stampley scored in transition, hit a couple jumpers, and overall was one of the best performers of the weekend as he hit for 13 points on 6 of 10 shooting, grabbed 6 rebounds, had 2 assists, and grabbed a couple of steals.  Looks like he's really starting to come into his own and he has a chance to see his stock soar over the next 12 months with hard work.  Great job.

2012 F/C Phillip Nolan
Forced to play inside this past weekend, Nolan stepped up in excellent fashion and finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds while serving as an interior force on both ends of the floor.  Finished around the basket, was efficient as he hit on 5 of 9 shots, and made his presence felt.  Excellent step forward for one of the promising bigs in the state.

2012 PG Kevin Person
Arguably his best performance to date at the BOC as he hit for 8 points and showed solid dribble penetration skills and the ability to attack and finish.  Would like to see him dribble penetration to create more and look to be more of a playmaking guard in the coming weeks while keeping the same aggressive approach in attacking the rim when the opportunity arises.  Continues to take steps forward in terms of his development and last weekend was a solid effort.

2013 F Montrell Hobbs
Didn't provide eye popping stats but what Hobbs did do was play hard and make things happen across the board.  Scored a basket, grabbed 4 rebounds, kicked out 3 assists, and also collected a steal in a solid week 2 effort.  He plays hard, has solid instincts, and is always in the middle of the action.  Really liked his overall effort this past weekend as he played a major role in helping the Lakers walk away with the victory.  Nice job.

 
MAVERICKS (Record 0-1)

Featured a couple of top individual performances but did little else this past weekend.  Need to bring effort the whole game and be more active on the defensive end.  Biggest deficiency is that no one stepped up to be the playmaker and create and the end result was a close loss.  Nevertheless, did have some solid efforts to build on for the coming weeks.

2010 F Steven Pratt
Showed some solid instincts this past weekend and also made a few nice things happen as well.  Continues to display a solid perimeter stroke with range that extends beyond the arc.  He grabbed a few rebounds and dished out a couple of assists as well.

2011 SF Roy Marshall
One of the top performances of the entire weekend, Marshall hit for 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds with a solid week 2 showing.  He attacked the glass, hit on 10 of 16 shots, and showed solid athleticism as well.  Great first game effort to build on.  Needs to become more active defensively and more assertive in looking to create at times to take his game to the next level but overall he turned in a quality effort and showed a versatile offensive package by attacking the rim, hitting mid range shots, and even knocking down a trey ball.

2012 G Arroyo Edwards
Turned in quality effort for his first divisional game as Edwards finished with 11 points and 4 rebounds while also blocking one shot.  Showed a solid mid range stroke and even knocked down a trey ball as well.  First half he was great and tailored off a bit in the second half so he needs to make sure he stays aggressive and assertive the entire game and also would like to see him start to step up his playmaking ability because he has excellent dribble penetration skills and nice instincts with the ball in his hands.  Looking forward to seeing his progression in the coming weeks as he's firmly established as one of the premiere 2012 prospects in the state and an elite national prospect on the rise.

2013 PG Brandon Ramey
What this young instinctive floor general lacks in size he more than makes up for in heart and ability.  Ramey was active throughout the day on Saturday and finished with a solid 5 point 3 rebounds 1 assist and 1 steal effort in the process.  Has nice range on his shot, can hit runners, and has solid handles as well.  Needs to continue to develop his playmaking ability and look to create while also knocking down wide open looks when they're available.  Solid overall effort for the Menomonee Falls young lead guard.

2013 C RayVonn Posey
Struggled a bit in the first half but turned it around for a decent 2nd half effort as he finished with 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds with almost all of that coming in the 2nd half.  As he continues to get into better shape and continues to be more assertive, look for him to be an increasingly dominant interior force with each passing week.  Showed solid instincts, and ability to finish, and excellent rebounding instincts and positioning this past week.  Good things to build on.

 
NUGGETS (Record 1-0)

Overall turned in the most balanced and top effort of the entire weekend.  They were efficient, protected the basketball, attacked the glass, and overall gave a great team effort.  While their team effort was outstanding, they also doubled with a number of quality individual efforts as well.

2010 PG Dwayne Brantley
Really liked this young perimeter talent's performance as Brantley pushed the issue but was always in control.  Finished the day with 7 points 4 rebounds and grabbed a steal while hitting on 3 of 6 from the field.  Attacked the rim well and showed solid dribble penetration skills to build on if he looks to create as well.  Solid week 2 showing.

2011 SF Alexander Marzette
Continues to be one of the pleasant surprises of the the league as the super athletic Marzette came up with a nice effort this past weekend with 8 points 4 rebounds and 3 blocks.  Was active, ran the floor well, hit some mid range shots, and was very active in the paint.  Only hit on 4 of 10 shots but overall liked his effort and look forward to watching him play this fall.

2011 G/F Charlie Fischer
Continues to take his game to another level each week and Fischer was very good once again this past weekend as he finished with 5 points 4 rebounds and dished out 3 assists.  Instinctive and polished, would like to see him start to be more assertive on the offensive end both creatively and scoring wise but overall he gave a solid effort and made things happen in the flow of the game under control.  Nice effort for the Arrowhead standout.

2011 SF Ryan May
In arguably his most complete BOC effort to date, May turned in a solid overall floor game despite struggling with a normally solid perimeter stroke from beyond the arc.  Finished with 6 points 7 rebounds and a steal but was only 3 of 9 from the field as he went 0 of 3 from beyond the arc.  Has already shown a better mid range game and willingness to attack the rim and the glass than he did last year and I'm looking forward to watching his development this fall as he continues to improve with each passing week.

2011 F/C Joe Sokovich
While not being the most dominant interior talent in the gym, Sokovich played hard and was active which was a nice step forward.  He created a solid interior presence and finished the day with 4 points 4 rebounds and a blocked shot.  Bigs are always a work in progress and Sokovich made some nice things happen and gave a solid overall effort this past weekend to build on.

2011 PG Nimrod Hilliard
Remains one of the most under appreciated floor generals in the state but this young Madison East standout can really get it done.  Turned in a quality efficient effort this past weekend to the tune of 9 points and 3 assists while also grabbed a steal as well.  Was 4 of 6 from the field and made excellent decisions with the basketball.  Plays with a swagger, has solid instincts, excellent savvy, and knows how to make plays.  Look for him to step up his game with each passing week.

2012 G Brandon Tyler
With each passing week my appreciation for this young talent continues to increase and after another solid effort this past weekend, Tyler has set the bar high for himself already.  Has nice size, quality instincts and awareness, can stroke the perimeter jumper, and has the ability to be a force across the board.  Finished with 10 points on 4 of 7 shooting including a couple of trey balls and also grabbed 4 rebounds, dished out 1 assist, and grabbed a steal.  As solid as he was, Tyler can be better and needs to be assertive the entire game and active across the board.  He has triple double type potential and needs to give the overall effort to make that happen in the coming weeks.

ROCKETS (Record 0-1)

Had a lot of balance and some solid individual performances but struggled with turnovers and will need a better effort on the defensive end of the floor in the coming weeks.  Still had a number of solid showings and made some nice things happen at times.

2011 SF Jamond Wilson
Strong, powerful, and athletic, Wilson showed an excellent ability to finish when attacking the rim and also was active defensively with a blocked shot and a steal.  Still raw and unpolished, Wilson gave a solid week 2 effort to build on and needs to become a force around the basket as the BOC moves forward.

2012 G Brandon Marquardt
Really like what this young talent has to offer and if last weekend's performance is any indication, Marquardt has a solid future a head of him.  Finished with 5 points grabbed 2 rebounds but more importantly he made some excellent decisions, showed an ability to attack the rim, and provided a glimpse of a quality young prospect on the rise.  Looking forward to seeing him develop in the coming weeks as he took a nice step forward with a solid effort this past weekend.

2012 F Sheldon Cooks
Another of the young raw talents in the BOC, Cooks was solid with a 6 point 4 rebound effort this past weekend.  Has some nice size and showed good instincts and activity on both ends of the floor.  Finished around the rim and gave a solid overall performance to build on this past weekend.

2012 G Jamall Taylor
One of the up and coming 2012 prospects in the state, Taylor showed flashes this past weekend as he hit for 6 points and grabbed a couple of rebounds.  Continued to display solid instincts and a versatile offensive package.  Struggled a bit with his shot as he finished 3 of 9 from the field.  Taylor is an excellent perimeter shooter so don't expect that to continued.  Would like to see him become more assertive on both ends and expect him to really step up his game as he usually does in the coming weeks.

2012 SF Otis Pirtle
Normally one of the stat fillers as Pirtle contributes across the board game in and game out, the young forward was solid this past weekend but not at his best.  Finished with 6 points grabbed 4 rebounds and kicked out a couple of assists as well.  Showed solid range and he knocked down a trey ball but struggled a bit with his decision making and had a few turnovers as a result.  Would like to see him step up his overall floor effort in the coming weeks but still made an impact across the board this past weekend.

2013 PG Duane Wilson Jr.
The young floor general continues to round back into form and gave a solid overall floor effort this past weekend with 8 points 7 rebounds and 3 assists.  Has nice instincts and a versatile skill package but his overall feel for the game is what sets him apart from many young lead guards.  Struggled a bit with his shot as he was 4 of 9 from the field and had a few turnovers as well trying to create on the offensive end.  Still he was solid on a number of levels and showed a knack for getting to the rim and solid vision with the ball in his hands.  Solid overall floor effort to build on in the coming weeks.
