Sam Dekker was one Wisconsin prospect who saw his stock soar with a strong performance this past weekend in Indiana but he was not alone as a host of talented young men put down quality efforts throughout the weekend at the 2010 Bill Hensley Memorial Run ‘N Slam Tournament.  Here’s a look at some of the prospects from the Badger state who performed well…

2011 PROSPECTS

MITCHELL FARR – 6’1 – MILWAUKEE HURRICANE REBELS
Really like this young man every time he takes the floor.  Nice strong frame for a perimeter talent with excellent range and the ability to score the basketball.  Definitely looks the part of a solid Horizon and Summit league type talent and continues to take steps forward with each passing week.

NIMROD HILLIARD - 6'0 - PLAYGROUND ELITE
A skilled instinctive savvy lead guard, Hilliard turned in a couple of solid efforts on the weekend.  Can finish off the bounce, makes solid decisions, etc.  Would like to see more consistency game in and game out and he'll need to do the same with his perimeter stroke to take the next step.  A solid low to possibly mid D1 lead guard at the next level, Hilliard is one of the craftiest on the court and showed glimpses of that at times this past weekend.

CHARLES LEE – 5’10 – MILWAUKEE HURRICANE REBELS
Strong floor leader with handles, vision, leadership, etc.  Lee is basically a coach on the floor and his continued development of his perimeter stroke has been a huge asset.  Was solid on the weekend in pool play and helped generate a solid comeback attempt in the loss to the Mac Irvin Fire on Saturday.

KEVIN MAYS – 6’5 – PLAYGROUND ELITE
One of the true soldiers on the scene right now.  Attacks the rim with toughness, strength, and dominance and put on a show on Saturday night where he clipped off 20 consecutive points in a comeback attempt.  Absolutely one of the most physically dominating talents on the scene, Mays is an excellent mid major prospect who could be lethal with improved perimeter skills.

TERRY NASH – 6’0 – WISCONSIN WARHAWKS
Solid quick lead guard with handles and instincts.  Nash showed flashes of taking his game to the next level throughout the weekend.  As his perimeter stroke improves so will his stock.

J.J. PANOSKE – 6’10 – RANDOLPH BOYS CLUB
The junior class both regionally and nationally is a bit lean on bigs so don’t be surprised if Panoske see’s his stock really take off in the coming months.  A solid shot blocking interior talent with excellent size and length that combines with an ability to stroke the jump shot, Panoske is scratching the surface right now.  With continued development and hard work this young man should start to garner some high major interest as he has some solid upside and potential in a class desperate for bigs to surface nationally.

CALAHAN SKOGMAN – 6’4 – WISCONSIN BLIZZARD
Really like this young talent in terms of his awareness and ability to score the basketball.  Has a solid mid range game, can knock down the trey ball and has nice length and a solid frame as well.  This past weekend spent a lot of time with the ball in his hand but his strength is as a SG and believe he could definitely land at the D1 level.

BEN STELZER – 6’3 – RANDOLPH BOYS CLUB
One of the top pure shooters in the state, Stelzer can fill it up and is an excellent catch and shoot talent.  Stroked the trey ball this past weekend and really love the intangibles he brought to the floor.  Can play either spot on the perimeter offensively but right now his defensive ability on the perimeter needs to improve to take the next step as a prospect.  

TRINSON WHITE – 6’4 – TERRY PORTER ELITE
One of the breakout performers of the weekend, White was excellent in pool play as he showed solid handles and excellent vision and playmaking potential.  Can score the basketball off the bounce and has range that extends beyond the arc.  Definitely one to watch progress because if this past weekend is any indication he appears to be on the cusp of garnering some low D1 interest in the coming months.

2012 PROSPECTS

AUSTIN ARIANS – 6’5 – WISCONSIN SWING
A class that continues to ooze with Division 1 prospects, Arians is right there in the mix as one of the advancing talents in the state.  Showed an excellent perimeter stroke on the weekend and scored the basketball in bunches.  Struggled a bit in a loss on Sunday but turned it up late to mount a late rally.  Definite mid major talent who could slide into a high major specialist role if he continues to takes steps forward.

ITAVIAN BELCHER – 6’6 – D.T.A.
Tough physical soldier in the paint who was exceptional in a loss on Saturday night.  Active in the paint, grabs boards, and can finish around the basket.  Continues to show an ability to grow into a dominant PF in the coming months and if his performance on Saturday night is any indication of what lies ahead, that might be right around the corner.

DARRELL BOWIE – 6’6 – WISCONSIN PLAYGROUND WARRIORS
Showed flashes again throughout the weekend and continues to take steps forward in the open court with his size, length, and athleticism.  Always an excellent rebounding talent, Bowie can finish in transition with consistency and has solid instincts on both ends to go along with a quality frame.  For him to take the next step he’ll need to continue to develop his handle and perimeter stroke in the coming months.  Was solid on the weekend and came up huge in the first half of the win on Sunday morning on both ends of the floor.

CINMEON BOWERS – 6’6 – PLAYGROUND ELITE
Re-classified last week according to program director Duane Wilson.  Bowers is a big strong physical forward who can score in traffic and has range that extends beyond the arc.  Was physically dominant at times on the weekend and has the potential to punish opposing teams because of his size and strength.  Consistency in terms of effort and production game in and game out needs to improve to take the next step as a prospect.

SAM DEKKER – 6’6 – WISCONSIN PLAYGROUND WARRIORS
Along with Edwards Dekker took arguably the biggest step on the weekend with a number of excellent performances including a big time effort in the quarterfinals on Sunday.  Really nice size and length and displayed a big time stroke with range well beyond the arc on the weekend.  Attacked the rim off the bounce and showed solid athleticism with a couple of dunks off the dribble and off rebounds on the weekend.  Was spectacular in the quarterfinals on Sunday.

ARROYO EDWARDS – 6’4 – PLAYGROUND ELITE
Continues to evolve into a high major talent with each passing month.  Solid length and a versatile scoring package with big time ability to finish off the bounce attacking the rim.  Showed an improved stroke largely in part to the arc on his jumper this weekend as he went for 30 in a loss Saturday night that saw Edwards stroke 4 trey balls in the game.  Still learning to play the lead guard position, he’s an excellent combo talent who is a high major caliber prospect on the rise.  Consistency game in and game out was solid and that will be key for him to continue that trend in the coming weeks.

WALLY ELLENSON – 6’4 – WISCONSIN PLAYGROUND WARRIORS
Athletic, tough, and skilled and all of those traits were on display again this past weekend.  Came up with a huge effort in the quarterfinal win on Sunday as he showed an ability to finish in transition, range beyond the arc, and solid athleticism.  Brings a lot of intangibles to the table and looks the part of a low to possibly mid major talent with continued development.  Great floor game and plays hard on both ends.

CHRIS GOLDEN – 6’0 – TERRY PORTER ELITE
A bit of a sleeper but really like his potential if he continues to grow and mature both physically and skill wise.  Nice long wiry frame for a perimeter prospect, has solid handles, can stroke the jumper, etc.  Consistency game in and game out needs to take steps and right now he’s young for his age so a possible re-classification later on or perhaps a 5th year after wrapping up at Lutheran would be in his best interests as a prospect due to his young age for his grade.  He’s a sleeper to keep track of.

JUNIOR LOMOMBA – 6’4 – THE FAMILY
Played up with the 17’s and continues to look the part of a high major talent.  Handles it well, sees the floor but lower half explosion laterally and vertically and consistency and improved range with his stroke need to take steps forward to become a full fledged perimeter prospect.  Excellent length and frame and has solid instincts to make plays.  Wasn’t at his best this past weekend but showed flashes at times of the high major potential he holds.

SAM MADER – 6’8 – RANDOLPH BOYS
Continue to keep this young man in high regard and it’s his versatility and ability to bring a number of different dimensions to the floor with his size and agility that make him an excellent prospect.  Excellent size and length with an ability to score around the basket and stroke the trey ball.  Could explode nationally over the next year if he makes the progression physically and skill wise and was solid this past weekend once again.

BRANDON MARQUARDT – 6’2 – RANDOLPH BOYS
Handles the ball, can get to the rim, and has solid bounce.  Showed that with consistency and continues to play on the cusp of breaking out.  A solid D1 prospect before it’s all said and done, Marquardt is one of the quiet sleepers in the state but one we hold in high regard nonetheless.

PHILLIP NOLAN – 6’9 – D.T.A.
Is more advanced defensively right now than offensively but does have the ability to stroke the jumper and has shown improved activity around the basket and finishing skills on the offensive end.  Was solid at times on the weekend in creating havoc in the paint.

OTIS PIRTLE – 6’3 – PLAYGROUND ELITE
Is very similar to Kevin Mays just a year younger in that he attacks off the bounce, cleans the glass on both ends and physically punishes opposing teams.  Consistency has been a bit up and down this spring and that was the case this past weekend as well.  Will need to shore that up before July but young prospects do that so it’s just another step in the growth process.  A double double every time he takes the court.

ZAK SHOWALTER – 6’2 – WISCONSIN SWING
Throughout the spring Showalter has been solid every tournament and usually has one game where he struggles and unfortunately for him it was in the quarterfinals on Sunday.  Nevertheless, he was solid in pool play and continues to show improved athleticism and ability to score off the bounce.  Perimeter stroke is there but has been a bit more inconsistent than usual so would like to see him shore that up before July.

JEAN-PIERRE TOKOTO – 6’6 – WISCONSIN PLAYGROUND WARRIORS
We raved about this young man in middle school and before he played a game in high school we believed he had the potential to be the best prospect to ever take the floor in the Badger state.  Real knows real and this young man is ridiculously athletic and versatile and showed that with consistency again this past weekend.  Excellent in transition, finishes in the open court and has big time rebounding skills and dominant ability.  Believe he could become a lockup defender on the wing if he wants to.  Has a huge ceiling right now but is very dominant at this point which is scary if it all comes together.  Didn’t play on Sunday due to a sore ankle suffered late Saturday night in an early playoff win.  Will grab a top 15 spot in the class when we update our national rankings later this spring.

2013 PROSPECTS

DEONTE BURTON – 6’5 – TERRY PORTER ELITE
The most physically dominant freshman in the Midwest and perhaps one of the same nationally.  Solid athleticism, big time rebounding skills, and can score the basketball.  Range and stroke continues to develop on the perimeter.   Consistency needs to take the next step as he struggled a bit on Saturday and then was completely dominant in a quarterfinal win on Sunday.  Again young players have room to grow in all areas.  Continues to look the part of a Top 25 national talent we regard him to be at this point.

NICK FULLER – 6’4 – WISCONSIN SWING
Has solid range and an aggressive scorer’s mentality that is positive when he gets it going.  Was solid at times on the weekend.  To take the next step he’ll need to improve his flexibility, handles, ability to score off the bounce, and explosion laterally and vertically.

JARVIS GARRETT – 5’10 – TERRY PORTER ELITE
Looks a bit taller at first glance and continues to look the part of an excellent lead guard who sees the floor well, creates, and makes plays.  Dribble penetration skills are on point and does have the ability to knock down jumpers.  Consistency on his perimeter stroke needs to continue to advance to take the next step as a prospect but brings a lot of leadership, instincts, and intangibles to the table in a big time way.

BRONSON KOENIG – 6’1 – WISCONSIN PLAYGROUND WARRIORS
Continue to like this young man every time he takes the floor and he has an excellent stroke that’s arguably the best in the state for the 2013 class in terms of his mechanics and consistency.  Range extends beyond the arc and does a great job of getting the team into their sets offensively.  Flourishes more in a half court set than the open court as his breakdown skills, lower half explosion, and transition skills need to continue to improve but he sees the floor very well, is an excellent passer, and can take over the game with his stroke.

DUANE WILSON – 6’1 – PLAYGROUND ELITE
Has been playing more off the ball this spring and really think his strength is with the ball in his hands.  One of the most instinctive and intelligent perimeter prospects in the country for his class and has the ability to get to the cup off the bounce with a variety of moves.  Range extends beyond the arc but consistency on his shot has not been there so far this spring.  Athleticism continues to evolve vertically.  Showed flashes this past weekend of his potential.
