BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE UPDATE
The final weekend of the annual Breakfast of Champions fall basketball league tipped off this past weekend and it featured a number of quality performances from a host of prospects. We will recap this past weekend’s activities throughout the week and also announce the All-League performers as well so stay tuned to 414HOOPS.COM for all the information over the next couple of weeks.
2011 PG Myck Kabongo of Findlay Prep (NV) provided the biggest trick this Halloween as the talented lead guard de-committed from Texas this past weekend. This is huge as Kabongo is considered by some to be the best pure PG prospect in the 2011 class and seemed like a perfect fit for the Longhorns who have now lost verbal commitments from two of the top 2011 prospects in Kabongo and F Deandre Daniels who de-committed earlier this year. Kabongo played with the Grassroots Canada program during the grassroots travel season.
2011 PG Quinn Cook of Oak Hill Academy (VA) has now added North Carolina to his list of schools that also includes Duke, UCLA, and Villanova. Cook remains one of the top 2011 prospects left on the board. He played with the D.C. Assault program during the grassroots travel season.
A busy Halloween weekend saw a number of programs grab some treats in their bag with commitments from various prospects. Here’s a recap of a flurry of activity over the past few days…
2011 C Tyler Adams of Brandon High School (MS) verbally committed to Georgetown on Monday. Adams had originally committed to Duke this spring but then he de-committed this fall and immediately turned around and offered up his verbal to the Hoyas. Adams saw his stock take off after a scintillating performance at the 2010 NY2LASPORTS.COM Swish & Dish Spring Warm-Up this past April with the Jackson Tigers grassroots travel program.
Indiana struck on the trail on Sunday as 2012 PF Hanner Perea of La Lumiere School (IN) verbally committed to the Hoosiers. Perea is regarded as a top 25 prospect in the 2012 class. He played with the Indiana Elite program during the grassroots travel season.
Florida State struck on the trail over the weekend as 2011 PF Antwan Space of Desoto High School (TX) verbally committed to the Seminoles. Space played with the Urban DFW program during the grassroots travel season.
In search of a PG the Gophers landed their guy this weekend as 2011 PG Andre Hollins of White Station (TN) verbally committed to Minnesota. Hollins played with the Memphis Magic program during the grassroots travel season.
Northwestern slid on the board on Sunday as they grabbed a verbal commitment from 2011 PF Mike Turner of the Chicago Lab School (IL). Turner has seen his stock soar in recent months.
The Big East continues to get tougher as Rutgers has put together and exceptional 2011 class that was bolstered on Friday by the verbal commitment of 2011 PF Greg Lewis of St. Frances Academy (MD). Lewis played with the Baltimore Assault during the grassroots travel season.
Not to be outdone by others already pursuing the 2012 class heavily, N.C. State struck on the trail late last week with a verbal commitment from PG Tyler Lewis of Forsyth Country Day School (NC). Lewis has seen his stock soar over the past year and the Wolfpack got this one done early. The talented lead guard played with the Team Loaded program during the grassroots travel season.
The Citadel added another piece to their 2011 haul on Saturday as 2011 PG Lawrence Miller of United Faith Christian Academy (NC) offered up his verbal commitment.
Last but not least was UNC-Charlotte who struck on the trail as 2011 SF E. Victor Nickerson verbally committed to the 49ers. Nickerson played with the Georgia Stars during the grassroots travel season.
