Antonio Curro — NATIONAL RECRUITING DIRECTOR - NY2LASPORTS.COM
The buzz from last weekend's 3rd annual NY2LA Sports Classic is still rocking the state. Some of the premiere boys and girls teams were on the courts and when the dust settled it was the likes of Ashley Green (Nicolet), Roy Marshall (Milwaukee Pulaski), Deonte Burton (Milwaukee Vincent), and Duane Wilson Jr. (Dominican) who have been big topics of conversations. Green hit for 53 points in 2 games for Nicolet while Marshall dropped a 35 piece out of the box. When it comes to Burton and Wilson you're talking about two of the premiere freshman in the country. Burton hit for 18 in his opener while Wilson bounced back from a sluggish opening game to hit for 24 in a victory against Franklin. Excellent performance by them and many more and thanks to all the families and teams who came out to support this year's event.
We've been talking for months now about 2012 PG Arroyo Edwards of Milwaukee King who continues to soar with each passing week. The 6-4 perimeter talent turned in an excellent opening game performance last weekend and continues to take his place amongst the best 2012 prospects regionally and nationally. Long, athletic, and skilled, Edwards put in major work last weekend after a breakout spring/summer campaign and a solid Breakfast of Champions fall league effort and he continues to look the part of one of the big time talents on the rise in the Badger state.
6-5 G/F Steve Tecker of Northwestern is out for the season as he's going to have surgery on his hip. This is a huge blow for Northwestern and a shame for Tecker as the talented swingman is one of the premiere 2010 prospects in the state of Wisconsin. Tecker has struggled with injuries since last spring and definitely not the way he wanted to wrap up what has been an excellent high school career at Northwestern.
Really like the progression of 6-2 SG Zak Showalter of Germantown. Think this young talent continues to grow and mature with each passing year. An excellent perimeter shooter, Showalter has added more vertical explosion to his game and continues to look the part of an excellent young prospect on the rise. As he improves his lateral quickness, handles, etc. expect Showalter to continue to collect looks and interest from mid to high major programs in the Midwest. One thing he's always had a knack for is hitting big shots when it matters most and he did that once again this past weekend as his dagger 3 pointer was the key basket in Germantown's victory over Brookfield Central earlier this week.
6-3 Sr. G Austin Armga of Waupun has Waupun out to a fast start with a 4-0 record and is averaging close to 30 PPG already. One of the best scoring talents in the state, Armga is one of the true sleepers in the 2010 class but he can really fill it up and is already off to a great start.
6-3 Sr. G and Marquette bound Vander Blue and the defending Division 1 state champions from Madison Memorial tip off the season on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with a matchup against Madison West at Madison West.
Have a nice weekend...
